After winning just 4 games last year, many are projecting the 49ers as this year's
surprise team. With the return of quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo from an ACL injury,
expectations are certainly running high in the Bay area. Maybe too high with a
defense that has some problems. During 2018, the defense produced a grand total
of 7 takeaways, the lowest in NFL history. The D also allowed 35 passing touchdowns,
which was second most in the league. Compare that to the defense only intercepting
an embarrassing 2 passes, an NFL low (Chicago had 27). San Fran's D also gave up
27 points per game, 5th worse in the NFL. Get the picture...………..

Garoppolo getting injured last year seems to be a pattern in Kyle Shanahan's offense.
His offensive system has proven to be a hazard to quarterbacks health everywhere
he's been. Matt Schaub at Houston, Robert Griffin with Washington, Garoppolo last
year with San Francisco. Looks like a lot is riding on just keeping the QB healthy this
year.

The win total is set at 8. What do you think men...………………….

I think the defense will be MUCH improved. They were last in takeaways last season that will change. Defense will put the offense in more favorable positions for success. They'll win more than 4 games...playoffs? That's stretching it

One would hope the defense is better. Two interceptions for an entire season. Hell, 98 different individual players
had at least 2 interceptions during the 2018 season. I understand that Shanahan is all about offense, but seems to
me the defense needs help. Only 3 of the 8 49er draft choices were defensive players. Shanahan better hope Nick
Bosa is one hell of a player.

They'll be better....history says it will. Teams who finish last in almost all categories defensively are much improved the next season. Teams who finish at the top always regress backwards. This defense will get more TO's and put the offense in much better situations to score

I am concerned about Jimmy G coming back from the injury.....those injuries are so devastating for QB's and athletes in general period. Seems they never come back the same and play with more caution

Once healthy....LB Kwon Alexander is a tackling machine!! Solid addition for SF D. He put up big tackling numbers in Tampa. He'll be pumped for Week 1 visit to prior team
