San Francisco vs Philadelphia on 01/29 by Craig_Brown

It’s not surprising that public sentiment is on the 49ers after watching Mr. Irrelevant, Brock Purdy, guide this team with the poise of a seasoned pro since he assumed the reins of the offense as the team’s third-string quarterback. But the credit truly rests with the Niners’ smothering defense that was in evidence in their last game, a 19-12 win over the Cowboys, in which they held Dak Prescott to 206 yards and picked him off twice.

Philadelphia’s Jalen Hurts appears fully healed from his shoulder sprain and the Eagles looked unstoppable in their 38-7 thrashing of the Giants last week. Hurts didn’t have to break a sweat and the Eagles' defense was immense.

I don’t see how Brock Purdy will match Hurts in the passing game as Philly owns the No. 1 passing defense in the league, surrendering just 180 yards per contest. Christian McCaffrey could be the wild card in all of this but when the 49ers fall behind, San Francisco will have to abandon the run and try to beat the Eagles through the air. And I just don’t see that happening.
