Gingrich piggybacked on Trump's comments at tonight's dinner.
He brought up a number of stories about Machado's past, including a report that she threatened to kill a judge when he charged her boyfriend with attempted murder.
'This is actually a sympathetic, sincere girl scout of extraordinary decency and great nobility who was really battered by Donald Trump 20 years ago and therefore we should not vote for Donald Trump despite everything else,' Gingrich said sarcastically.
He also suggested reporters were in on the controversy before it even began.
''Every element of the news media, including part of Fox, has been dedicated for two days to suppressing Donald Trump,' Gingrich charged.
The 'Machado Trap,' Gingrich explained, was 'a trap that was set up for three or four months.'
'News media were lined up to run articles the second Hillary said something,' he said.
The prominent Trump surrogate pointed to how Clinton hurriedly mentioned Machado's story at the very end of the 90-some minute debate.




'And if she didn't get it in all of these news media people who got all this stuff would be mad at her,' Trump said, charging that the mainstream media was ready to pounce with sob stories about the Venezuela beauty, who recently became an American citizen, and plans to vote for Clinton.
'So [Clinton] finally dumps this woman at the very end and says, 'look how terrible this is,'' Gingrich said.
'At which point CNN has nine people on a panel, all nine of them are against Trump, all nine of them go, 'oh my God, can you believe that 20 years ago he was mean?'' he continued.
The next morning, Gingrich said, the folks on 'Morning Joe' were aghast. And thus the media firestorm had started.
The campaign had been prepared for Trump's reaction, releasing a two-minute video on the beauty queen after the debate.
Clinton's people also put Machado on the phone with reporters, where she mainly spoke in Spanish, but switched to English to say that seeing Trump now running for president was a 'bad dream.'
