This movie was mentioned on here when it was about to hit theaters, but I haven't seen anyone discuss it since.

I go to the movies a lot, but didn't think this one was worth going to see on the big screen.

After watching it on DVD, my opinion would be that it's not that great, but for all of us here who probably understand it better than the average person, it's probably a little more interesting to us than them.

A part of the movie worth mentioning, is when Justin Timberlake, who was a player cheated online, confronts the book's owner and tells him he could have went to the ONLINE FORUMS and revealed everything, but didn't....

I watch movies like that and ask myself,, what did they do wrong? (just guess) but the majority of ben afleck movies have sucked terribly,, I think its because he is barely big enough star to bankroll,, and he requires producer credits,,, and shit like that,, so I think they dont spend the money they need to on better directors? beccause they have to divert it to him???<<

just a guess,,,
but that movie had a ton of potential, as well as a decent suprise ending,,, so I have to think somewhere in the middle they CUT COSTS somehow,,,

who knows,,
cheers

It makes you wonder who came up with the idea for the film.

Someone in the industry or having ties to it or gambling in general, or just someone looking for something different to make a film about.

Either way you look at it above, most people still don't know enough about it all to make it appealing to audiences, thus the reason for the actors they chose.

I don't really think Ben Affleck is thatttttt bad tate. He's had some pretty good movies.

Warner Bros. sure is putting a lot of faith in him to play the role of Batman in "Batman vs Superman" which will have quite a few stars...

Being a gambling movie, I bought it on demand before you could rent it, I want it to see it so bad. First movie I ever asked for my money back and returned. If you're at film school this is THE movie that will teach you what a bad screenplay is (what a horrible storyline with an embarrassing stupid unbelievable ending), what overacting is (Affleck) what amateur non acting is (Timberlake). Horrible. If you're not at film school and thinking of signing up, this movie will give you all the confidence in the world. "I can do better than that, easy".

I know actors are supposed to be good at portraying just about any character, but if you think about it, I wonder if this role is harder to play than most, because the majority of people just have no clue about it.

That could have been part of the reason Affleck & Timberlake weren't that good in it.

But then again, you take a guy like Keanu Reeves who everyone says is such a bad actor, and he plays a pretty good role in Hardball and what I consider the best single gambling scene ever in a movie below....

I don't really see anything fascinating about the subject matter of online gambling. So that was a big knock against from the beginning. Also Afleck is atrocious. he needs to stick to directing. Timberlake needs to stick to singing and guest roles on Jimmy Fallon.

Runner Runner was pretty spec... Follows the beats of a basic plot. It was probably based on a more incricate screenplay (or novel?) and dumbed-down over time to appease the masses.

Love this role for him... A pretty simplistic movie, but they got the gambling part so right. This and Owning Mahowney are my favs for films that give the audience a real feeling for the excitement degenerates feel. As an aside, don't read the book that Hardball is based on... There's no gambling.

I didn't think it was horrible. mildly entertaining... Unlike All for the Money or whatever the latest gambling movie was with bruce Willis. that was unwatchable

This movie was below average. It kept my attention at times but was not good. I think Ben Affleck is great though, and don't understand why everyone knocks him. He is a good actor, and has directed Gone Baby Gone, Argo, and The Town.....three very good movies.
