I wrote about it in the thread where we discussed SD with Philo. It was nice, was a bit bummed out by the Suns but still had a good time. After all it is SD! I never get tired of spending time down there, but usually don't go out for the nightlife too much. Guess I am getting old!

I lived down in Mira Mesa for 18 months during the mid 90s and grew up in OC so I know the area very well. I wish I had a house there! My mother has a condo in Hillcrest, but she is usually out of town on weekends so its sort of like my vacation home. With summer upon us rest assured I will be visiting often, with my next trip including a chance to finally see a game at Petco. I have been to SD about 6 or 7 times since they opened it and my timing was always bad.

mira mesa is a nightmare now wildbill but im sure you know that.housing prices are absurd here.rents absurd! you have to have money to live in this town. im in la jolla so i know your stomping grounds very well. i have great suggestions for your next visit. i like hillcrest alot but if i could live in kensington that would be a very peacefull place. i live near the childrens pool in LJ.which clubs did you get to? if you made it to the 5th qtr what did you think? did you get west near petco?let me know next visit i have great places for you to go including my favorite italian place. its a microbrew beer place and sports bar too. but youd love it! ive been a regular for 15 years and the owner would take good care of you.its in del mar.~RG

Oh Del Mar always gets my attention! I actually drove up there on Monday before driving home and it was ridiculously gorgeous as always.

We went to the 5th quarter first, then the Mai Tai place (forget the name), then we finished up until closing time at the Bitter End. Place is getting sort of dressier than I remember, I was starting to think when will they have a sign saying "Italian designed clothes required".

The condos getting built there are getting amazing. I love that building across from the Hyatt, forget the name of the complex. Its about a block from that KC BBQ place. I remember in 2002 or so I was looking at that place as possibly a place to buy a condo. I went in there and was like ok, maybe I can afford it but it is REALLY stretching it and said I had to think about it. Within 10 days they called me up telling me the pricing went up $60k and so I was done with it. Now the place probably has gone through the roof.

I was in Mira Mesa on a long-term assignment and then had to move back to the Bay Area. I contemplated staying down there, but the salaries are a frickin joke. Since my mother works in corporate-level finance like I do she can tell me pretty accurately what the wage rates are down there and they are a joke. I swear I make as much or more money in Vegas than SD! Its unreal and why I doubt I will ever get to live down there again unfortunately...

the bitter end took a strange turn when green bay was here to play denver in the superbowl in 98.brett favre and his crew were in there every night and it got the bitter end great pub. after that it got very trendy. now i dress great. but im underdressed according to them and its laughable.they want the older clientele with fat wallets and platinum credit cards.bill next time your here try croces heading north up 5th ave. its run by ingrid croce who was the wife of jim croce. jims son aj performs jazz and blues nightly.youd enjoy that. ole madrid is a nice spanish bistro across the street. and when in del mar oggi's is a must! its italian for whats new or whats fresh.and your read on the financial realitys of san diego are dead on.i know the condos your talking about and thier beyond reason.the explosion of downtown expansion drove prices to outrageous prices. if you lived there id be pestering you cus that would make you a very rich dude and i need one of them.lol.im a spinster according to my unhappily married friends, i cant wait to have that kind of life.:lolBIG: ~RG

I went to Croce's a few times in the past, nice jazz and blues place, but I don't know what it is I am only in the mood for jazz when I have a date. I went to Oggi about 2 years ago I think, if I am remembering the right place. My family always goes down to Del Mar for Labor Day weekend, been going there for about 20 years straight now. We hardly even go to the races anymore, seems like the last thing anyone wants to do, we just like going out to eat and gaining 10 pounds at places like that!

At least with the condos downtown you get something nice and new. My mother's building is really just a plain old apartment building from the early 70s the owner turned into condos as people moved out. Stupid move it turned out, he sold all but one of them before 1999. The one next door, same size but far worse condition sold for $277k. Imagine $277k for a 630 sq ft apartment from the 70s and looks every bit like its still in the 70s! Pure insanity. Can't beat the location though, three blocks from the Hillcrest sign and less than a ten minute drive to Fashion Valley, downtown, or the airport.
