i have a friend who works for the ANAHEIM angels and last year we went to a game and we got seats about 35 rows off the field - and 3rd base was like directly in front of us - so you have some idea where we sat. again - parts of the place were obstructed. we want to go back this year but i can't for i have every weekend betweeen now and labor day filled with either hoops games or going to vegas or san jose (ca) with the exception of july 4 - and i believe the padres are out of town that weekend. and come september - NO WAY i am going to a game and missing CFB or NFL. so come 2006 i will try and catch a game and see how right you are for the drive to SD - while it can be frustrating with tons of traffic - it is also a gorgeous 90-ish mile drive scenery wise w/the exception of the "2 tits" at San Onofre (is your bra size about the same?). i have heard about the trolley and might consider that - either that or park at your place and have you drive me :lolBIG:
my tits are softer than san onofre's:lolBIG: .not 200 feet high either.i have no warning lights at the top to keep pilots from crashing into them.id drive you there but you ride in the trunk. i have an image to protect winky.

and you are willing to let me judge firsthand? also - a ride in the trunk? you must think i am an illegal alien then - for that is how most arrive in the country coming from TJ and other places. i am 6'1" so unless you have something like Lincoln Town Car that will be trouble. while YOU could fit in the trunk of a Geo Metro or Toyota Echo - unless you chop me into little pieces (and damn - shouldn't be giving you ideas) i will never fit. guess i will have to get to the Padres' game on my own. did i ever tell you about the 1st game i went to at Petco? my best friend and i go with others. they took 1 car - and we took mine. i wasn't feeling well so my friend drove. we told him where to get off the 5 for the game. i was somewhat sick so i went to sleep. eventually my friend wakes me up - and in a manner in which every time he does this - i KNOW he did something wrong. i wake up and he tells me he thinks he missed the exit. i check to see he has - for the next sign on the 5 i see is "San Ysidro" is the NEXT exit. for those not familiar with "SY" it is the last US city in CA before the CA border when down near SD (i sense by now RG is on the floor dying of laughter). i think we were about the only 2 who spoke english in the city and needless to say - we missed the exit by MANY MILES!

whormoan- Even before I read your post about the ticket section on the Padres website, I bought two tickets on there earlier today. What a great way to get quality seats at a decent price. I'm glad you posted that so people will know where to go for a really good selection of seats. I bought two tickets on that Toyota Terrace Level.

We're getting there early for batting practice. Could either you or roxy recommend a restaurant in the park where my son and I can have dinner. Also, we're heading to the 5 North after the game. Where would be the best spot to park so we can get headed that way after the game. Thanks.

theres nothing but great restaurants near the ball park. as for parking why not avoid the hassle and park at the old town trolley station or any other station and ride the trolley. then you can ride back and jet onto the 5 from there. or park at the convention center off 5th on harbor and eat at seaport village then walk to the park. theres so many ways to get there and so much to do! youll have a great time! i suggested the padres market earlier in this thread, glad you used it.:103631605

roxy- Thanks for the info. I was thinking about the trolley idea. We want to get to the park when it opens. Will the trolley be running from the Old Town to Petco Park around 4 pm and do you think Old Town is the best spot to park? Thanks again.

roxy- I've visited the usual tourist stuff in San Diego but the only time I've been downtown is the Amtrak Station. I've never taken the trolley. Do you just park your car in Old Town and take the trolley to Petco Park? My only concern with that is after the game, is everyone trying to get back on the trolley at the same time?

I know public transportation is probably the best way to get there as I've heard parking around the ballpark is pretty tough. I'm looking forward to taking my son. His first major league game was when I took him to see the Padres when they played at Qualcomm.

have you been to Staples Center in L.A.? parking is pretty much the same in both places - there is no "main" lot like at places like Angel/Dodger Stadium and the Forum - but scattered lots here and there around the place. on weekends - if you are lucky - you can find a few FREE spots - but good luck with that. for the most part expect to pay around $15 for a parking spot w/in walking distance to Petco. ANYTHING $10 or less - GRAB it - you will be hard pressed to find better

SB

Parking is a hassle at Old Town, just park at the south facing side of San Diego Stadium, the trolly stops right behind it, it's a piece of cheese.

Have fun ... tell my peeps I miss them.

Yea, Brain fart on the new name. The Trolley also runs along Fashion Valley and Mission Valley shopping malls, plenty of free parking there also.

I lived in Birdland for 26 years just North of Qualcomm. It's still pretty easy to catch I-5 North from the Stadium, 5 minutes West on I-8.

I'm looking at a picture in my office from the very first KGB Skyshow, you old enough to remember that ?

Saw the Stones at the Stadium in '88 and U2 maybe ten years later.

I think a few Raider fans showed up at a concert one year and a lot of fights broke out, no more "festival seating."

Vegas is a hard pill to swallow, my toes need a serious dipping in some cold salty ocean water SOON !

it was stones concertin 99 that ended it!a rape was reported in the mens room which launched a huge investigation. in the interim sd city council passed a lifetime ban on all outdoor concerts within sd city limits.after that the girl who reported the rape admitted she was a willing participant but went with the rape story because s.d.p.d. walked in on this and she didnt want her parents to get pissed!amazing!raider fans are out of control everywhere they just add more cops and bailbondsmen when the raidas come to town for thier yearly ARSE kicking..

Soccerbob, a nice place to eat with the kids (in the stadium) is at the top of the Western Metal Supply building (Petco's "famous landmark"). It is a bar/restaurant where lots of people congregate before the games. They have the biggest plate of nachos you have ever seen, pasta, beef, etc... They also have a bunch of flat-screen hi-def TV's so you can watch all the rest of the games. You can go out on the patio and watch BP from up there as well (the target of all RH hitters).

As for parking, if you don't mind paying, there is a very convenient ACE parking lot right across the street from the box office and main gate to the stadium. It is off of the 5 at Imperial Street, and is very easy access before and after games. I get right in and out.

Hope this helps
