During his November 21 pre-Thanksgiving sermon, Reverend Jerry Falwell, Moral Majority founder and national chairman of the Faith and Values Coalition, encouraged his audience to "praise the Lord" at Thanksgiving for "alternative news media" sources such as Sean Hannity Rush Limbaugh ...

THIS CRAP IS GETTING REAL OLD ...

The religious right in the United States is exclusively an American phenomenon; it is a politicized form of Christianity, a Pharisee strain that uses the word of God for political gain. When they do use the word of God as a point of reference, it is always out of context and a complete perversion in what God intended it to originally mean. The religious right has made an unholy alliance with the criminal element within the Bush administration; this convergence of interests between the Christian evangelical dispensationalists and the neocons is nothing short of apostasy for the church ....In light of what we know about the Bush administrations’ fabrications and outright lies concerning the threat posed to the United States by Iraq, the lead up to the war was a direct violation of the 9th commandment “Thou shall not bear false witness”. And as the result of all the lies by that Christian sitting in the White House, thousands of people have been murdered in direct violation of the 6th commandment.
Falwell is not above coming up with complete fabrications of his own when he writes – “President Bush declared war in Iraq to defend innocent people. This is a worthy pursuit.” President Bush never declared war against Iraq, in fact, Congress never declared war against Iraq even though they are constitutionally required to do so. The invasion of Iraq was constitutionally illegal, it was also an international illegal act of war, and the part about defending innocent people is almost laughable if it was not so tragic, thousand’s have been lost and continue to be lost, for no justifiable reasons, the pious Falwell again conveniently disregards this reality.

The two things about this Falwell crap are thus:

1. his language almost always implies or explicitly states that to be American is to be Christian. Such things as 'the liberals heard today (in the election) that Americans are tired of their paganism.' Apparently, 'liberal' and 'American' are mutually exclusive. Betcha there's 48% of you that would disagree ...

2. these people have fast become 'mainstream' within the Republican fold instead of being relegated to the fringe as they have in the past.

Colour me retarded, but aren't the Religious Right types also the anti-gov't types? Seems to me they should have a vested interested in keeping Church and State separate, as well. Guess that was just through the Clinton years ... ??

More reminders about how when the Bushies claim to be "in touch with God" that they must have some great hallucinations when stoned ... more from the "Morally Superior" Rev Jerry Falwell:

clinton_chronicles.jpg
In 1994, he issued a direct mail piece asking financial contributors to "help me produce a national television documentary which will expose shocking new facts about Bill Clinton."

Falwell took the money and cranked out the smear-campaign-in-a-videotape called The Clinton Chronicles: An Investigation into the Alleged Criminal Activities of Bill Clinton. It was unsophisticated conservative agitprop, full of lies and unsubstantiated rumors about both the President and the First Lady.

The producer of the tape, Patrick Matrisciana, later confessed to having posed in the video as an anonymous journalist. The silhouetted figure on the tape told Jerry that President Clinton was killing off whistleblowers who knew too much about his private life. It was a complete fabrication. When the news broke about the complete dishonesty of the tape, in true form Falwell tried to disclaim having any editorial control over the project.

Although ostensibly motivated by hatred for the Democrats, The Clinton Chronicles had been primarily a moneymaking effort. Like any televangelist, money was always an issue for Falwell. His empire required continuous infusions of cash.

In 1994 Falwell quietly accepted $3.5 million from Korean cult messiah Sun Myung Moon as part of a larger deal to bail Liberty University out from under its horrendous debt load. Perhaps Jerry was moved by this staggering generosity. That might be the reason why Falwell publicly urged his friend President Reagan to pardon Moon's tax evasion conviction.

Jerry was widely criticized in the Christian community for lending legitimacy to Moon's organization. Moon had always claimed that he was Jesus Christ's successor and moral superior. It was inconceivable that a fundamentalist Christian like Falwell would regard Moon as anything other than a blasphemer. But, as always, whenever confronted with a choice between money, connections, or the appearance of propriety, propriety came last.

That fact alone, in retrospect, makes it strange that Falwell was selected to take over the PTL Ministry when Jim Bakker was taken down by scandal in 1987. Bakker tapped Falwell to protect PTL and defend it against marauders, specifically fellow televangelist Jimmy Swaggart. Falwell promptly stabbed Bakker in the back by steering PTL straight into bankruptcy court.

Then in 1988, Falwell launched another failed bid to gain a presidential pardon, this time for greedy traitor and convicted perjurer Oliver North. It should not have come as a surprise. After all, they were kindred spirits.
