CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. -- Two Marines and a sailor attached to Camp Lejeune-based units were killed last week in roadside bomb explosions in Iraq, the Defense Department said Monday.

A Wilkes County hospital corpsman assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment of the 2nd Marine Division died in an explosion during combat operations in Anbar province, the military said.

Petty Officer 3rd Class Chris Thompson, 25, was riding in the left rear seat of an armored vehicle when an improvised explosive device was set off, according to his parents, Larry and Geraldine Thompson.

Lance Cpl. Kenneth J. Butler, 19, of Rowan, died from an explosion near Amariyah. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment of the 2nd Marine Division.

The response from the Bushies is "losing 2000 kids is worth it cause they died for the greatest CIC that this country has ever seen ..."

My response is youre morbid....will you be chaining yourself to the WH gate today?

Couldnt even wait for the MSM to get it....took it right off the blogs (man those bloggers are right on top of things)
One question....were any soldiers death in any war worthwhile? Given your logic I dont see that any of them could be determined noble.I mean what right did we have stopping Hitler from murdering innocent people and invading other countries.Germany didnt attack America....did they?

While I think it is absurd to draw any comparisons to WW2 and this conflict where in WW2 the world united to defeat a dominant and aggressive nation. And this conflict where a dominant nation is crushing an enemy. In the grand scheme of things 2000 US soldiers dead since the beginning of the conflict is minuscule. 1100 American die every day from smoking related illnesses, Bomb Philip Morris.

No end in sight......this government is a disgrace to America...the politicians that are keeping our troops in this Iraqi/Afghanistan hellholes should be ashamed of themselves.

The death count doesnt even begin to explain the other casualties. Tens of thousands will lose limbs, sight, hearing...the list goes on, but these neocons do not care about America or Americans.

2000 Deaths:An artificial mark

As American military deaths approached 2,000 on Tuesday, the chief spokesman for the American-led multinational force called on reporters covering the conflict not to look at the event as a milestone. <SCRIPT type=text/javascript>if (window.yzq_a == null) document.write("<scr" + "ipt type=text/javascript src=""http://us.js2.yimg.com/us.js.yimg.com/lib/bc/bc_1.7.2.js></scr" + "ipt>");</SCRIPT><SCRIPT type=text/javascript>if (window.yzq_a){yzq_a('p', 'P=VmArZ86.I3pLdJRJQ0e9qQdt2MzBmkNegsUACBW7&T=17v6bosib%2fX%3d1130267333%2fE%3d8903239%2fR%3dnews%2fK%3d5%2fV%3d1.1%2fW%3d8%2fY%3dYAHOO%2fF%3d3938770702%2fH%3dY2FjaGVoaW50PSJuZXdzIiBjb250ZW50PSJtaWxpdGFyeTtBbWVyaWNhbjtJcmFxO0l0O3RlcnJvcmlzbTtzZWN1cml0eTtnb3Zlcm5tZW50O2RlbW9jcmF0aWM7aG9tZSI-%2fS%3d1%2fJ%3d6A23BECE');yzq_a('a', '&U=139o5617v%2fN%3d7.LcYM6.Isk-%2fC%3d349496.6570514.7531646.1442997%2fD%3dLREC%2fB%3d3029832');}</SCRIPT><NOSCRIPT>

U.S. Army Lt. Col. Steve Boylan, director of the force's combined press center, described the number as an "artificial mark on the wall."

"I ask that when you report on the events, take a moment to think about the effects on the families and those serving in Iraq," Boylan said in an e-mail. "The 2,000 service members killed in Iraq supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom is not a milestone. It is an artificial mark on the wall set by individuals or groups with specific agendas and ulterior motives."

The U.S. military on Tuesday announced the deaths of two Marines killed in fighting with insurgents last week in Baghdad. Their deaths raised to 1,999 the number of members of the U.S. military killed since the war started in March 2003, according to an AP count.

"The 2,000th Soldier, Sailor, Airman, or Marine that is killed in action is just as important as the first that died and will be just as important as the last to die in this war against terrorism and to ensure freedom for a people who have not known freedom in over two generations," Boylan wrote.

He complained that the true milestones of the war were "rarely covered or discussed," and said they included the troops who had volunteered to serve, the families of those that have been deployed for a year or more, and the Iraqis who have sought at great risk to restore normalcy to their country.

Boylan said they included Iraqis who sought to join the security forces and had became daily targets for insurgent attacks at recruiting centers, those who turned out to vote in the constitutional referendum, and those who chose to risk their lives by joining the government.

"Celebrate the daily milestones, the accomplishments they have secured and look to the future of a free and democratic Iraq and to the day that all of our troops return home to the heroes welcome they deserve," Boylan wrote.

There are always many good causes to die for, just not sure this is one of them.
