RNC killing the DNC in fundraising

Rick Moran
The Republican National Committee has nearly 6 times the amount of money on hand at the end of August as their Democratic party counterparts:
DNC spokeswoman Karen Finney says the party raised more than $17 million and has $17.5 million on hand, having spent more than $28 million last month, largely on the Democrats' ground game.

That cash figure is a fraction of the $110 million a Republican official says it has, which includes transfers of money McCain is no longer allowed to spend and money from state fundraising vehicles.

The disparity shows the Republicans' continued edge with the wealthy donors who can give in five-figure chunks. The RNC money cannot be spent on advertising directly for McCain. But the candidate really doesn't need it for that.
Where the RNC money will make a difference is on the ground, setting up offices and running a massive volunteer effort that they hope can match the Bush-Cheney campaign's 3 million participants.

Obama, meanwhile, still needs more cash. And more...and more...
Barack Obama's $66 million haul in August donations may set records but it's only a down payment on the huge sums the Democratic presidential nominee must continue to collect in order to compete through the Nov. 4 election.

Obama is attempting to become the first candidate to privately finance the general election phase of his campaign, and his August performance seems to be a good start. His announcement that he had $77 million in cash in the bank at the end of August came strikingly close to the roughly $85 million in taxpayer funds that Republican John McCain has to spend on the entire general election.

But the August sum came after a full-court press by the campaign and in the midst of the Democratic National Convention, historically an easier time to generate donations because the party base is focused and united.

The campaign announced that it had recruited 500,000 new donors in August, which brings the number of total contributors to 2.5 million.

As
Jennifer Rubin points out, Obama must also spend precious hours away from campaigning in order to hit donors up for cash.

Will the well ever dry up? That must be a nagging question at the back of Obama's mind as the campaign heads into these crucial last weeks.

Aren't these two things in direct contradiction of one another?

Are you referring to the bigtime people with huge fundraisers in Kenya, Somalia or Pakistan. I briefly listened to a similiar story on the radio but came in at the end of the piece. Didn't hear the whole story.

See its easier to hit record after record for Obama's campaign when all he has to do is ask donor's for simply another $20 - $50 bucks. That's easy to do every month.

Obama Heads to Hollywood for Fund Raisers

Nick Timiraos reports from Denver on the presidential race.
While his own celebrity status has been a topic of great debate, Barack Obama is heading to Los Angeles to enlist big donors — celebrities included — to contribute to his campaign.
Obama attends two events Tuesday in Beverly Hills, Calif., including a $2,500-a-head event at the Beverly Wilshire that includes a performance by Barbra Streisand. She had initially endorsed Hillary Clinton after Obama won the backing of Oprah Winfrey last year.
Hollywood strongly supported Bill Clinton during his two election campaigns, and while many Clinton backers faithfully lined up behind his wife, there were a handful of high-profile defections — most notably when longtime Clinton supporter David Geffen endorsed Obama and had harsh words for the Clintons.
The Illinois senator will also attend an early evening $28,500-a-plate dinner at Greystone Mansion, which was originally part of the estate of California oil tycoon Edward Doheny. The home, now owned by the city of Beverly Hills, is a popular filming location and was featured most recently in “There Will Be Blood,” whose main character is modeled after Doheny.
Obama reported a $66 million fundraising haul in August, compared to $47 million for John McCain. McCain, who has accepted $84 million in federal funds, won’t be able to solicit contributions for his campaign but can have donations instead made to the Republican National Committee. Obama’s decision to opt out of public financing for the general election means that he’ll take time off the campaign trail Tuesday to keep his campaign coffers brimming.
The California detour is book-ended by trips to two key Western swing states — Colorado on Tuesday and Nevada on Wednesday. Obama spends Thursday in a third Western battleground of New Mexico.

Yeah, what middle class American doesn't spend 6 month's pay on dinner at a Beverly Hills landmark?

The answer is obvious, isn't it.

Reminds me a little of Joe C. who also had a habit of posting articles or links as "proof" for his positions which were actually anything but, something he did not notice as he didn't seem to read farther than the catchy headline. :)
