where have the years gone?........

Mike's statement when Stevie left for Tampa

“This is not easy,” wrote the Ilitches. “We're having a difficult time, frankly, because Stevie's been with us from the start and we consider him part of our family. We drafted him as a young and shy 18-year-old – just a year after we bought the team – and he has been part of it all: the ups and downs, highs and lows, the Cups, the celebrations, really everything Red Wings over the last 27 years. We watched him grow and develop over the years into a Hall of Fame player, a wonderful husband and father and now, a very capable executive.”

Funny thing is I never realized how much an individual person has helped shape my life as much as this guy did with his relentless effort and support of top notch and top quality professional and minor league sports when I was growing up. My father and I had season tickets to the Red Wings for many years, and his support of youth hockey at all age groups and levels in Detroit with his Little Caesars sponsorship was unparalleled at the time.
Now that he is dead all I can say is thank you sir.

The Little Caesers youth hockey program he helped form has placed over 100 into the NHL. He was the only one investing in the city while everyone else was leaving.

Yup just in my age group alone we had at least 25-30 kids play Division 1 hockey and about 5-6 of those kids played in the NHL. Not all of them played for Caesars but the level of competitiveness and exposure he brought to that city was much to do with the reason Detroit is called Hockey City USA.

ABSOLUTELY

this chap gave back. Wanted the local kids to play the game. Enjoy the game. Make friendships. Have mom and dad experience the joys of watching their child play sport

Detroit Little Caesers, Belle Tire, Honeybaked......Detroit minor hockey has a lot of thanks to give. He helped culture the environment

A FANTASTIC HOCKEY STATE
