Casey Stengel once said that the secret of managing is to keep the guys who hate you away from the guys who are undecided.
The banishing of JJ Gold from the Rx posting forum not only reminds me of the above quote from Stengel, but also a child who doesn’t play well with other children.
The parents usually isolate the child until he decides that being civil to the other children is better than being alone. Or in the baseball example, keep the players who haven’t made up their mind away from the people who don’t like the manager.
While I am a relative newcomer to the world of posting forums (just over 200 posts on the Rx), I have worked in the Las Vegas sports and gaming business for 22 years.
In that time, I have seen many people who don’t communicate well and go out of their way to irritate and even verbally attack other folks. Unfortunately, in the short time I have been browsing and posting in the RX forum, JJ Gold seems to fall into that category.
The Rx is run as a business, and as such must provide rules and regulations for its posters to follow. When those regulations are regularly ignored to the point where it has a negative influence on other posters, appropriate action must follow.
So what do most parents do when a child is throwing a temper tantrum? The same thing we should do with JJ Gold from here on out. Guys, just ignore him until he screams himself out.
Hopefully, in time, he will learn that playing nice with the other children is better than being alone.
