well ur not the only one that can do it, jeje.

THere's a lot of people in that bussiness, I can get one, in about 22 days, if everything is good.

But be carefull with who u are dealing with, many of those guys just get the money and give u a fake one.

I think it sounds like you're both getting fakes.

I believe the technical letter of the law is that you have to be living and working there for 8 years to even meet the basic criteria to qualify. As I understand it, you also have to go out of your way to prove that you meet this requirement, such as providing lease(s), wage statements, etc.

If you have received a residency in 22 days (or even 22 months for that matter), then you have almost certainly paid for fraudulent documents.

Law? My g/f is a lawyer....and she hates me with matters like this. I though it was fake as well....simply because wehn I first got here, people were doing work permits and residencies...well when the person went to the bank to get a mortgage or something of that sort, they would find out that their residency was fake. And there are still lots of them around. The way these ones are done are under investments. Of course by strict law this is not possible, that is why there are a few bribes involved. In the end you end up with a company in your name that you could do whatever you want with, and that company is a potential investor in a gov't project.....of some sort, I beleive it was generating electricity.

Judge, the residency you have I understand is just as good right? I mean it's temporary the first time around and then when you renew you are eligible for permanent?

lol, it seems that I never run into you when I am sober, we gotta try to hook up sometime without alcohol.

Pretty funny stuff about never running into Judge when you're sober.

I'm just curious as to what the benefits of becoming a resident are. I mean, is there some kind of tax benefit?

I know that when I register a business there, as a foreign business owner I have all the rights of a citizen except for political (can't vote or hold office). I have no interest in the politics there, so would there be some other benefit to becoming a resident?

um, to not worry about getting deported among other things if you have built a life here.

I'd say that's one heck of a reason then. lol

I've often thought about living there for a year or so, but stick to just visiting 1-2 times a year. I would honestly never go an entire 90 days without making a trip out of the country anyway, so I am guessing I could skate by as a tourist as long as I didn't have any income generated within Costa Rica - but then, what would be the point in moving there if that were the case.

Actually I dont really care if u believe me or not, is not my bussiness, but you can have your residency in 22 DAYS, they charge like $4k but u need to have all ur documents in proper order, they just move it fast, and if u miss one they might help someway.

But I dont want to mess around talking about this, here!

Just remember this are residence papers(Pensionado Rentista or Recidensia Rentista) not naturalizaciones which is something different and a lot more expensive to get one.

Ghost, I just renew it every year. I think after 5 or 8 years I get permanent residency.

After 8 years, what you can request is Naturalizacion, this is when you can get a tico ID (real cedula not residency) and then a tico passport, for this you need to go to Tribunal Supremo de Elecciones, and the paper work required is almost the same as when you request the residency. This usually takes like from 8 months till years, jeje, depending on what papers you didnt gave or what ever. In the black market you can get it faster but is very very expensive a real one not a fake, cause sometimes they sell one that you even go to TSE to get it, but is valid only for 3 months. Is as the same as the residencies, the process takes like from 6 months to a year, if your are lucky. Cause this goes throw a big process, where they check if everything is good, and as there are so many foreigners requesting this you will need to wait for a period of time.
Always in both process what you will need, is Criminal Records from your country, Birth Certificate, Bank Statements, Passport and some others, originals and copies, certify by Costa Rican Embassies. And someone that can help you out throw the process.
As i told you early, many can get one, but you need to be carefull, cause there are a lot fake. And many that are not fake, have different prices to obtain one fast and easy.
Also there are to types of residencies, the Rental Residency or the Related Residency (actually I dont know how to translate this. Is when you are married to a Tica(o) or with tico children), the first one is the easy to get, the second one is now being a little slow to get.

But well he is the one offering the services, not me, jeje, so he is the one that should explain everything

That is not correct, I know a guy who does that stuff and he is legit... it is just a matter to find a real deal... and 22 day is the average for that knid of paperwork...
