Judas is an interesting subject.

Apparently Jesus knew Judas would betray him.
He also knew this would cost Judas his life.

Instead of turning himself in and saving Judas he let the guy betray him.

In both scenarios Jesus was doomed anyway.

...so I would give Jesus 2 out of 10...could definitely have done better

"Greater love than this no man hath, than to lay down his life for his friends"

It's odd to you because you do not know the Scripture fully. (I dont mean that as a slam) Christ was born to died as the 'sacrificial lamb' to atone for man's sin. That was His propose.

...and my point is, Judas did not have to die to achieve this.

His death was not required.

additionally

"Greater love than this no man hath, than to lay down his life for his friends"
fell by the wayside as far as Jesus was concerned.

(especially since he was a dead duck anyway)

Jesus had a choice.

1. Jesus dead. Judas dead.
2. Jesus dead. Judas alive.

Jesus knowingly chose number 1, but you would think that most people would choose number 2. (I would)

He took his own life but he had to betray Christ "as it was written."

"as it was written" alludes to prophesy in the "old testament" that is why I meantioned you did not know scripture fully.

Jesus gave judas the choice. judas had free will...he chose to do what he did. just because it was predicted, does not mean judas had no choice.

Thx Blue, the thread needed some perspective from someone who knows.

---------------------------------------------
Rob that's cockney rhyming slang from London.
(I'm Scottish so I can only partially translate.)

I'm feeling a bit fooked far too many beers tonite. Got to get up early because the sister is over from the UK. The wife is giving me a headache about the car and leaving me to do the dinner when all I want is to put some cash on a dog at Catford.
My guts are rotten after having a curry tonite, only a matter of time before the piles play up, dreading the morning shít.

In Scots it would be something different again.

A'm scunnered aifter twa mony beers etc etc

That's only 2 areas.
Then there's the North of England, the West Country, Ireland and others
For a thumb sized area our regional stuff is pretty mental.

Are you saying the prophecy in Zechariah Ch. 11 did not need to be fulfilled by Judas or someone else?

no. i am saying that judas had free will and chose to do what he did. if he did not have the will to choose, how could you blame him?

The betrayal was foreseen or prophesied so if one believes then the betrayal was bound to happen.

the fact that free will and predestination co-exist has baffled minds much more intelligent than mine for centuries.

i stopped trying to figure it out a while back. i have accepted the fact that my mind cannot comprehend every mystery. if it could, i would be as smart as God. and, i know that aint true.

I tell people all the time , Jesus is God, he did not have to die on the cross, he could make up any prophecies he wanted! Jesus should have flown around like a bird or a jetbomber! He could have visited Africa, America, South America, all over the world like a meteor! He could have done stuff like 'I Dream of Jeannie' and 'Bewitched' combined! Instead, he made up some kooky-pain filled death that was a miserable way to go! You can quote scripture :103631605 all you like, God chose it that way, so obviously he could have chosen any way he desired to prove he is God and fulfill his own made up prophecies!:103631605
