DALLAS -- Oregon Ducks No. 2 receiver Darren Carrington is ineligible for Monday night's College Football Playoff National Championship Presented by AT&T against Ohio State because of a failed NCAA drug test, according to multiple reports.

Gary Vasquez/USA TODAY SportsThe Ducks might be without two key offensive weapons if freshman WR Darren Carrington is ineligible. Receiver Devon Allen (knee) also isn't expected to play in the title game.

Comcast SportsNet Northwest, citing multiple team sources, earlier reported that Carrington, a freshman from San Diego, failed an NCAA-administered drug test, testing positive for marijuana. A person with direct knowledge of the test results also told The Associated Press that Carrington tested positive for marijuana.

Ducks spokesman Dave Williford confirmed that Carrington did not make the trip for the championship game, but the team wouldn't address the situation until coach Mark Helfrich appears at Saturday morning's media day. The Ducks arrived in Dallas on Friday night.

Fox Sports reported that an appeal by Oregon already has been heard and denied.

The loss of Carrington, who is second on the team among wide receivers in yards, would be a big blow for Oregon's high-powered offense.

Darren Carrington had great chemistry with Marcus Mariota -- he caught the second-highest percentage of his targets on the team, plus Mariota targeted him deeper down the field than any other Oregon pass-catcher.

Carrington had more than 100 receiving yards in each of the Ducks' past two games. He had seven catches for 126 yards with one touchdown in a 51-13 victory over then-No. 8 Arizona in the Pac-12 championship game Dec. 5 -- his first career start -- and then had seven catches for 165 yards with two touchdowns in a 59-20 win over No. 3 Florida State in the Rose Bowl Game Presented by Northwestern Mutual on New Year's Day.

The Ducks already are expected to be without freshman receiver Devon Allen, who injured his knee on the opening kickoff of the Rose Bowl. Allen is second on the team in receptions with 41 catches for 684 yards and seven touchdowns. Tight end Pharaoh Brown also has been sidelined for several games with a leg injury.

The Ducks still have three players who have caught more than 20 passes this season: converted running back Byron Marshall (66 catches for 834 yards), sophomore Dwayne Stanford (39 for 578) and freshman Charles Nelson (21 for 101).

Tight end Evan Baylis had a breakout game last week with six catches.

Information from ESPN.com's Mark Schlabach and The Associated Press was used in this report.

What an utter dipshit.

Instead of telling his grandkids about playing in the national championship game one day, he can tell them all about how he blazed up a bong.

Seriously, is it too much to ask for these guys to just avoid this crap for a few weeks out of the year?

It becomes legal July 1st 2015 so still illegal.

You can lose or be denied job in Washington where it's been legal for awhile for positive pot test, I'm sure it's the same in Colorado.

Except what he did is against NCAA rules. Until that changes, you can't just invent your own rules and play by those instead without facing consequences.

And as far as I can tell...even when it becomes legal in Oregon, the NCAA can still have their own policy of keeping it illegal. Kind of similar to how drinking alcohol is legal, but you can't exactly crack open a beer at your desk while you're at work.

Who really cares about what the state law says anyway?

If you're part of an organization and that organization has a set of rules, you follow the rules.

What a moron.

This....I always get a kick out of people that try to rationalize breaking very black and white rules. Just because revenue starved states with bloated budgets are caving, doesn't mean that organizations, corporations, ect are going to follow suit. Selfish move by the player....

And what the fuck is your point? People go out after work and have a drink, same with weed. The only difference is that it's stays in your system a lot longer. But it's okay for the college kids to go out drinking huh? Half of them being underage to begin with lol. Get the fuck out of here with bullshit man.
