New York Mayor Bloomberg blathering about how the "cowardly terrorists" must not be allowed to change "our way of life." Ditto Blair.Ditto Bush. Ditto the dittoheads. And, of course, the Chimp himself yipping and hooting about the continuing "war on terra." Everyone rabbiting on about the "barbarism" of the terrorists, yada-yada.
Now there's machine-gun-toting police swarming around New York subways and a thousand media pundids working overtime.
None of this staunches the flow of blood or ameliorates the tragedy for the innocents and their families . . . in New York, Afghanistan, Iraq, Madrid, or London.
War is like that.
Only the war profiteers benefit. But no one is pontificating on or stressing that fact today.
On edit: And what's with this "cowardly terrorists" shit, anyway? -- Kerry just chimed in with the same lame phrase. As horrific as the crime is -- targetting innocent civilians -- how are the planning and executing of these horrors "cowardly?" Surely risking these acts is anything but cowardly. Heartless, violent, criminal, merciless, but hardly cowardly.
Now, how about shooting missiles from ships in the Persion Gulf or blasting automobiles to smithereens from an Abrahms tank. How valiant is that?

Well, if I were into CT I'd say that al Qaeda was a division in Haliburton's PR department. But I'm not so I won't.
Two things in particular bothered me about the statements from Blair & Bush this morning. Well, three if you count the regretable fact that Bush spoke at all.
The first is the part about drawing attention to the supposed contrast between the "good guys" at the G8 luxury shindig trying so hard to do so much good and the bad guys doing the terror. The G8 story is not one of unalloyed benificence. There were and are serious protests and objections to the G8/WTO/IMF modus operandi which plausibly argue that their policies and actions are causes of a lot of third world poverty, not a cure for it. The issue is arguable, but using this tragedy as an oportunity to put lipstick on their pet pig was offensive to me.
Second, I don't mean to diminish the enormity of what happened in England today, but let's remember also that in Iraq this would merely be an unusually bad day, not a unique calamity of historic proportions.
To then hear Blair talk about how awful it is of (presumably) al Qaeda to kill innocent bystanders in England when, as a direct result of his own scheming with Bicycle Boy over cheap oil, this is now an everyday occurence in Iraq, was sickening. I find it insultingly hypocritical of Blair to claim that the sole terrorist attack in England is unequivocally evil while the enduring burden of death that he and Bush have imposed on Iraq is morally neutral or maybe even virtuous.
I sense that BB and Blair have learned nothing from their Iraq adventure so far. Meanwhile, the folks that don't get to hide out at five star hotels and resorts have to deal with the messes that they create.

So who's gonna get the blame over this?
Us liberals, of course.
Mush Limberger and his ilk have already warned that any terrorist attack will be laid at the feet of the pansy liberals.
I had hoped the Dem leadership would already be out there in attack mode, spinning this correctly as a failure of US and British policy in Iraq.
Let's see how they're doing:
<!-- BBCode Start -->Democratic Leader: 'Complete Solidarity' with Bush<!-- BBCode End -->
Democratic senators issue statements on attacks
<!-- BBCode Start -->Raw Story<!-- BBCode End -->
The following statements were issued to RAW STORY by Democratic Senate leader Harry Reid (D-NV) and Sen. John Kerry (D-MA) in response to the London attacks.
"I extend my heartfelt condolences to the people of Great Britain, and especially to those in London who endured these depraved acts of terrorism today," Reid said. "These attacks were cruel and senseless acts, committed by cowards who see nothing wrong with targeting innocent civilians.
“I am confident that all Americans are committed to ensuring that this nation does everything it can to help bring justice to those responsible," Reid continued. "We also stand in complete solidarity with Prime Minister Blair and President Bush, and all the leaders of the G-8 Summit, who pledged their commitment and resolve to fight and defeat this kind of extremism and hatred wherever it exists in the world.”
XXXXXXXXXXXX
The following statement was issued today by Senator John Kerry in response to the terrorist bombing in London:
"Every American heart feels for the British people and the families of those killed and injured in today's horrific terrorist bombings in London. As a country which has also experienced tragedy at the hands of cowardly killers and which keeps faith with the special alliance Prime Minister Tony Blair reaffirmed on September 11th, our thoughts and prayers are with you.
"In addition to words of condolence and condemnation, America should offer every assistance to Great Britain in dealing with the aftermath of this tragedy and in hunting down and destroying those responsible. We must reaffirm that cold blooded killers will not for a moment stop the critical work of the G-8 nations in showing the world the strength of our shared values and our commitment to ending poverty around the globe. The terrorists should hear from all of us today: the future belongs not to fear, but to freedom. We must also be vigilant here at home to take every step needed to complete the unfinished work of homeland security, strengthening our port security, rail security, protecting chemical plants, and securing loose nuclear materials abroad. While these attacks remind us that the fight is far from over, they also strengthen our resolve to stand together for the right of free people to live in a peaceful world."

I’ll take your dare and raise it to a double dare. As soon as I saw the headline I thought to myself: How soon will it be before the conspiracy nuts begin the process of obscuring all of the obvious reasons that we should find this bombing upsetting by creating an ever widening web of easily disproved theories that draw attention AWAY from those responsible for this evil while making it easy to discredit all criticism of Bush and Blair.
George Bush and Tony Blair are indeed responsible for unleashing this violence but they did the deed in front of everybody two years ago when they chose to lie our two countries into waging war without justified grounds for doing so. It is interesting that this bombing happens a few days after good old President Aw-Shucks starting running around the globe to thank the leaders of the countries that supported him in his grudge match against Saddam Hussein.
It was inevitable that the war would come home to England and United States.
Real "Lucky Seven" day for Great Britain. Putting it harshly, killing innocent Iraqi children and civilians could come with a payback and now Brits had one to the nose. This was so expected.
Al-Qaeda used again that muslim anger to the max. Probably the killers are locals from London muslim community.
Fucking miniature-US idiots, why the hell you Brits have to attack with Americans to Iraq?
Even when everything was and is going more and more FUBAR down there, you still voted to give this asshole Blair the third term last May? Un-fucking-believable.
This all sounds like "Hey, we are still trying to be imperial power. Long live the Queen!". Hidden but still there.
Vivid proof that the "war on terror" is a total, complete and absolute farce. Thre is no question that this could have just as easily happened in the NYC subway system...or anywhere.
Everyone here knows this, but the general population still doesn't get it; terrorism cannot be stopped. And spending billions of dollars in Iraq hasn't done shit to scare or intimidate these groups. Rather, it has emboldened them.
Next up: Watch the stock markets begin to slide. With oil at $61 US a barrel and terrorists on the move, this could be a tipping point.
