i have this computer i want to add some ram to. I guess some pc's can only handle so much, im not sure. It has 256mb ddr ram and i want to make it 512. the computer memory bank says this.....Installed: 256MB/pc2100 Memory bank 1: 256 DDR SDRAM Memory bank 2: none.....now i want to know if and how much can i add to this...thanks

You'd have to contact the manufacturer to know for sure, but if it has 2 banks with one open, I'd venture a guess that you'll be just fine adding another 256. If you want to go higher than that-you should confirm that the bios will support that much.

the HP support guy says the pc can handle 1024(2x512mb)DIMM, so do i buy 512mb of ram? or just another 256. The memory i saw was in the best buy ad....it is 512mb pc3200 ddr ram for 39.99, and this cant be too hard to install myself right...just open the case find the right slot and plug in right?

ok i see that the 2100 is the speed that i need, but is it simple enough to just do myself?

dont waste your time to just move up to 512......not worth it

You need to take it to 1GB of RAM to make it worth while!!!

512 is okay for Win2000, but 1gb is definitely better for WinXP.

You're right-there's nothing to it. Just make sure you unplug the machine before popping the sticks into the slots.
