OldmanTed started doing this years ago and I kind of took over for him but I decided to bring it back and see how it goes but it was the race of the day and posters would chime in and share thoughts and picks on the races so with that here is the big race of the day IMO the Santa Anita Derby and here is the field:

Nice job Gravy!

Santa Anita Derby, and my 2 pennies
2 (5-1) REACH THE WORLD - grey Tapit on derby trail ... Baff/Smith ... nuff said.
11(20-1) IRISH FREEDOM - 2nd off shelf, wouldn't be here if Baffert didn't think he belongs.
9 (7-2) ILIAD - I don't like at 9f but is Prat's choice and he should know. Would be double tough if Gormley runs flat.

Thanks Gravy. I started a thread for the Wood Memorial and Kentucky Blue Grass before seeing yours. Wish I knew how to post all the fancy stuff you guys do.

And I miss those Oldman Ted feature race posts. Thanks for reviving.

#6 American Anthem. (5-1 ML)
His race in the sham was dazzling and a repeat of that performance will likely translate into a win. Trained by someone who has won this race a million times, Mike Smith said American Anthem wasn’t himself in the Rebel and I am willing to forgive him for that effort and looking at the 46 best of the day workout he seems like he is doing just fine. American Anthem was the big favorite in the Rebel and has always been the favorite, not today. Expect a much better effort today.

Well I'm about to head to the track here and man this is a tough race to call but here is what I like:

I see alot like the #6 but not sold on him today as Baffert puts Garcia on him think he is in the mix but doesnt win

I like 4 horses in this race:

#2 Reach the World

#3 Battle of Midway

#12 Midnight Pleasure

#13 Royal Mo - Dont count out Stevens put him in your gimmics

Also I think the #5 will be flying late to get in the gimmics also use him

BOL to everybody today and will be back latter on to go over the thread

Santa Anita Derby

Santa Anita
Race 8
post 6:30 Eastern

#7
Kimbear
ML 12-1

Taking a shot with this horse who ran his best Beyer in his last. He has only had two dirt races. The other four were failed attempts on the turf. But he has shined in his only two on dirt. In his first dirt he was running down today's favorite, Iliad at 6f but came up short by 3' lengths in second. Today's distance is 1 1/8 miles. Plenty of time to catch him today.

Thanks, Gravy, for bringing back "The Race of the Day".
