I am wanting to go wireless so I can play "poker" in bed.

I am currently on a cable modem. I have 2 modems in my home. One for my daughter on the 3rd floor and one for my computer on the bottom floor. The reason I didnt go wireless and just have one modem is because I didnt know if reception would be good.

What is the best way to do this. I am going to buyt a new laptop for this purpose only.

Friend of mine says you use a router. Router plugs into modem and a certain type of card in the laptop picks up the signal?

You can get a "Wireless Cable Modem" and a "PCMIA Card" for the Laptop. The reception is good if you stay within approx. 150 Feet, unless you're in a prison cell with walls 2 feet thick. Which I don't think this is the case. In fact, you can also buy a wireless card for any desktop that you have in the house.

Any further questions, feel free to ask.

Good luck.

i tried to set up wireless network in my house got a bunch of people logging into system went back to wires

if you are like me and not good at setting stuff up - maybe get a friend who knows more abt it to set it up for you with the proper security

the hardware is relatively cheap these days just the set up etc needs to be done right

You didn't secure the wireless signal. All you have to do is password protect it and no one but you can use it. It is amazing how many people don't protect their connectin. Everything that person does using your ip comes back on you.
