The Spurs can play any style. The Sonics also rely on a lot of screens and shooting like Rip Hamilton. Spurs took that series. Spurs can grind it out on defense and they can play run and gun and outscore you (Suns series). With Wade, he's more of a penetrator. Ginobili can shoot a little bit better. Add in Barry's shooting, Parker's shooting, and some Bruce Bowen defense on Hamilton, and I just can't see Detroit scoring enough points on the road in this one. Plus, let's not forget Duncan is the best player on the floor.
They're at home, and unlike the Heat, it isn't just a two man show. While they have the two best players on the floor with Duncan and Ginobili, they also have much better perimeter shooting (Barry), point guard who can get penetration as well (Parker), and play better defense. They are healthy, rested, maybe rusty out of the gates. I think Detroit is mentally exhausted. I really don't think Detroit expected to get past Miami after they went up 3-2. I think Detroit might be just happy to be here for game 1, their backs aren't quite against the wall yet. They know it's not a big deal if they lose game 1, they are in San Antonio for the split. This Detroit team almost enjoys putting their backs against the wall, and I wouldn't be surprised to see them come and concede game 1 with some weak play, put their backs against the wall for game 2, and come out a little more rested and with some intensity in game 2.
By no means is any game at the NBA finals level a lock. But just as that Miami game in Game 6, I felt there was no way in hell Miami would win game 6 and it was free money. I kind of feel similiar with this game. The only factors holding me back is the rust factor and referee factor. Will the officiating be fair? Will the NBA try to make this thing a 6 or 7 game series and ref this thing for Detroit?
All in all, with the Detroit scoring droughts, I just can't see them keeping up with the Spurs fresh legs.
Detroit won the Miami series off of 2nd chance points. I don't see them getting all of those easy put backs, and easy rebound-dunks, and 2nd and 3rd chances at shots.
My mind is practically set on the Spurs. I'm not looking for agreement. I would like some more anti-Spurs feedback so I can see the other angle, like a couple of you have offered.
