i have been a fan all my life. as all red sox fans, we have suffered a lot through the years. whats it gonna take until ppl decide that its not worth it anymore. i think i can only take it till the end of this season then thats it. what are your takes on this team
and terry leaves in another pitcher to fry. terry its only a coincidence we give up leads in the 6th and 7th with our SP. those just happen to be bad innings for them. it has nothing to do with them being tired or anything. please, stick with the strategy
I gave up after last year and then they went out and got Schillin so I gave them another shot. I wish that they had gotten Vladimir Guerrero and not only because his first name is my middle one.
Fish, I believe you are right on when you say DEFENSE and SPEED. Look at last year's Marlins as a blueprint. Strong up the middle, pitching kept them in games. Hell, they didn't even really have a closer. Just a winning attitude and an ability to scratch out a few runs and let the other team's make the mistakes (Giants, Cubs).
You need a solid catcher that can handle your pitching staff. Strong D up the middle (face it Pierre, Castillo, and AGonz don't exactly strike fear in the hearts of pitchers).
Throw in a few role players and clubhouse leaders (Conine comes to mind), get a manager that will keep it loose yet give the club confidence in him.
And BAM,PRESTO, you have yourself a winner.
You call to me and say ahole and now you say to me how is your live life Borat? It is verry good my love life. Pretty soon I will be posting about my dates. What you guys think...Journeyman is only stud around over here?

Borat, not to be nosey, but how is your love life lately? Any progress meeting nice Amerakanski girl to work plough in back yard?
they have to clean house ASAP and get rid of high priced malcontents who think the team revolves around them. Manny and Pedro to name names.
Manny apparently skipped those few games to get back at Francona for calling him out on some issues. Pedro skips off to the Dominican instaed of pitching the game before the all-star break.
how are they going to win a title when two of their best players don't seem to care?
Management is pretty smart now, they tried to dump Manny before the season. They will clear the guys out who add to the problems ASAP.

Defense is the key. Reason Twins won first Championship and Fish collected huge on them. 35-1 or something.

The year was 1987 and it was to win the pennant at 35-1, not the Series.
The signing of Jeff Reardon just before the season is the reason I hopped on them.
With Kirby in Centerfield, Hrbek at first, Gladden in left, Bruno in right, and Gagne at shortstop.........they had a very good defensive ballclub.

DEFENSE is the most overlooked aspect of professional baseball.
Case in point:
The Red Sox have scored more runs than the Yankees this year AND have a lower team ERA...........yet they are 9 games behind the Yankees.

FISH-
Your boys can't just put it together. This year it seemed that they FINALLY figured out that a team cannot hit its way to a ring. Then they go ahead and stink up the joint on defense with the errors. Once they figure out that defense and pitching wins championships they will get close to winning the title.
FWIW, that is the problem (if you want to call it that) with my Yanks. Steingrabber forgot that while hitting may win games, pitching wins championships and all the hitting in the world is not going to save this team in the post season. If the staff does not get healthy, the Yanks could be headed to another year of winning a ton of games without much in the way of a ring to show for it. I could see a few 5-3, 6-4, 3-1 games in our future in the postseason if we run into a few decent arms.
pitching and defense is the key, look at what turned the braves around 13yrs ago. Pendleton, Belliard, Bream,,,,,, guys who were team players, played sound defense to go along with great pitching (without the closer)....
the sox didnt start playing well until august last year. this year theyre getting started a little earlier. they'll be there. I know going in we expected a 107 wins and to run away with the divison, but it just doesnt work like that. make no mistake, the red sox are easily the best of the wild card contenders. theyve fought injurys, they have a new manager and theyre right there for that WC spot. lets see how this club is looking 2nd-3rd week of august.
and to the Red Sox fans themselves, I know I have bad mouthed several things about the team. I have vented, and I'm not doing that anymore for the rest of '04. It's time to rally and be supportive.
so here's to hopeing Derek's sinker gets nasty bite like we saw on sunday and Mr.Francona has got most of the kinks worked out of his game plan, and the rest of the boys can continue to play well and perhaps we can have even better memorys than in '03.
deep down I hope he stays but if this injury stuff keeps up year after year I think the team would be better with someone with less potential but more consistency...
