Just started running today for the first time in about 15 years. Started at a mile and I did it in 9 mins and 30 secs and feel like Im gonna die. lol. Im 34 weight about 210 and Im 6-1. Usually lift around 4-5 times a week and Im a Letter carrier so I walk (At a brisk pace for about 3-4 miles a day 6 days a week). Im just looking to shred a few lbs and get into better shape. I can walk around the world if I had to but when it comes to jogging or running ah not to good. Any suggestions? Should I keep with the mile for about a week then jump up to 1 1/4 next week and keep jumping up every week? Thanks

Run that same mile for a few weeks until it is not a problem. No sense getting tendonitis, which will come, since you obviously haven't run in years. Im thinking of getting back into running. Not overweight, just want to be in solid shape. I'd like to get up to 3-4 miles a day but we'll see if I even ever get started. Only time I run is chasing the kids and that kills me.

Can you make it to a gym to do eliptical cardio? That's the easiest way to get tuned up for running. If not, try running a half hour a per session. You don't need to race anyone, just make sure you get the blood pumping. Run for the same amount of time and try to increase distance on a weekly basis, if only by a hundred yards. Just strive to do improve and you will.
