when is a time it is too much beer?

i drink about 3-4 days a week. usually limiting it to 5-8 beers. i dont drink to get blitzed, i just love the taste.

i know it can affect the waist line, but when does it become damaging to your vital organs?

i have heard drinking in moderation is good for you.

any thoughts?

by moderation, they mean 1-2 drinks per day. thats it. you get the positive effects from that much. any more just adds to the waistline and leads to all sorts of problems medically

Since you asked, you are at a high risk for future health problems. As long as you are willing to live and die with your choices, carry on.

I have read a couple a day can be good for us for thinning the blood but I have heard the opposite as well.

Just realize it may catch up with you and you will have to look in that mirror and take responsibility.

The "drinking in moderation" benefits are minimal. There are some benefits, but the risks far outweigh them. Especially when you consider lots of people don't drink in moderation!

It is just a matter of deciding what is important to you. If you want a great body, drinking 3-4 days/week isn't gonna do it. Not only do you consume empty calories when you drink, but the alcohol slows down your metabolism.

We're all gonna die of something. If you really enjoy a few drinks now and then, why not? Why deny yourself something you enjoy just so you can live an extra 5 years?

Unless you're drinking like Nicholas Cage from Leaving Las Vegas, I wouldn't worry about it.

By the way, I'm not a doctor. I just play one on The Rx Forum!

that's what baffles me, just about anything you do nowadays kills you. i have been thinking about limiting my drinking to once a week or every two weeks.

i also think life is way to short to worry about little things you eat and drink. but then i again, i dont want the last few years of my life to be miseralbe, although this can happen to the most health cautious people too.

thanks for any replys, but i am going to work on cutting back, not drinking during games for a start. although it is great to have a few beers while watching a game, but as the stress mounts, the beer starts flowing more rapidly

Definition I've seen a few times:

"Drinking in moderation means no more than one alcoholic drink per day for women and no more than two drinks per day for men."

And *NO*, you can't "save" all your drinks for the weekend and have 10 drinks on Friday night!

for health benefits the best option really is one and only one glass of red wine a day.

I would say the benefits of that are NOT minimal.
doctors hesitate to recommend this widely because many people who don't drink might start with good intentions and some of them will end up alcoholics, or drinking way too much and outweighing the health benefits. anyone who can drink a glass of wine here or there and leave it at that would benefit from doing so

I've always thought the definition for binge drinking is extremely unrealistic. Five drinks is binge drinking? Please!

What is Binge Drinking?

Binge drinking is drinking a large quantity of alcohol in a short period of time, usually for the purpose of getting drunk. Men who consume five or more drinks in one sitting, and women who consume four or more drinks in one sitting, one or more times within a two-week period are classified as binge drinkers. A frequent binge drinker is defined as a person who has engaged in binge drinking three or more times within a two-week period.

3/4 days a week is perfect. That's how I am usually. Never touched the hard liq. just beer.

Living to 80 or 90 isnt that big of a difference to me..

So I will enjoy my 10 beers a night, 3/4 days a week. I think my type of people outlive the stressed out people who worry about moderation and other bullcrap in this world.

now if i were dope smoking i would be far more concerend. look alone what you are doing to your lungs. i excercise 5-6 times a week. we just got back from Arches National Park in Utah, we hike 13 miles on Saturday. i am far from out of shape. i have lost 15lbs within the last month, and have about 15 more to go.

although, we get back from hiking and what do we do, hit the local bar down from our hotel. i had 5 beers, the wife had 3. she is only 5' 110, and does not drink everytime i do.

i am going to stop worrying about it, but cut back a bit. i need to get these last 15lbs off!
quote:
Originally posted by SportSavant:

Furthermore I just think most of the people in this world today cant get up and look at themselves in the mirror and be happy as to what they see back. Insecurity plays a role also. Im secure in who I am and what I can do and where I can go. I havent sold my soul to the devil. Even after 10 beers in a night I can honestly say I dont change for anybody, only one exception is getting some balls to talk to the ladies easier.

The "professionals" say two drinks a day are the limit one should drink to avoid serious health problems.

As long as you dont drink everyday, my personal professional opinion is that you can stretch that to four beers per day.........but thats definetly the cut-off point!!

Four is also works much better than a lousy two on the social end of the scale.

It also should just keep you just under the rader as far as a DWUI in most states as long as you stretch the four out to at least 90 miniutes.

As you can tell, I have this down to a science.

Also, beer is all natural and next to purified water, is one of the healthiest drinks you can consume in my professional opinion.

Think about it........4 beers a day vs 4 soda pops a day.

The beer drinker in the above comparison is drinking twice as healthy and will live a healthier lifestyle in the long run.

I used to party hard in college and it caught up to me by the time I was 25. I was drinking every day 1-12 beers, smoking dope as well. Not recommended.

But I'm a wuss, some people can handle life in the fast lane, eventually my body got messed up though. My skin turned yellow at one point!

And all I ever drank was beer. Rob, drinking after lifting is not supposed to be a very good idea, maybe something to look into dawg.

rob, if you drink like you say, and lift, it is not good. i imagine you are the type about 6' 230 with a mixture of fat and muscle. you are not lean by any means, but strong as an ox, correct?
