i see princeton -14ish

knowing how good princeton is and how pathetic dartmouth is - isn't this one almost too easy? i know when that looks to be the case it rarely is - and i will admit my knowledge of the ivy league is weak - at best - but what i do know is dartmouth is one of the worst teams - if not the worst - in the nation. a princeton win here wraps up the Ivy League and an NCAA bid - so we know the tigers will come in focused.

am i going the right way here - princeton to take them out behind the woodshed and just kick their asses! of dartmouth's last 9 losses - with the exception of a 4-point loss @ yale - every one of them has been by at least 16 - and most by over 20.

Dartmouth almost always gives double the effort in the 2nd game of the Friday/Saturday Ivy League slate. I believe the Tigers wrapped up the Ivy last night...though I could be mistaken.

With all that I still am going to lay the number against the Big Green. They are worse than their numbers indicate. I got it at 13 earlier this morning.

Good luck tonight Winky...

princeton is 11-1/penn is 9-3

if princeton loses tonite and penn beats harvard tonite - penn hosts princeton tuesday. if penn wins both would be 11-3 and even though penn beat princeton 2 times - the ivy league doesn't use H2H as a tiebreak - they would play a 1 game playoff for it all.

so - NO - princeton has NOT clinched the ivy yet.

Princeton is up by 2 over Penn in the conference standings. Both teams have 2 games to play which includes each other on Mar. 9th. I see Princeton wanting to wrap up the conference here in this game.

My big concern with a big spread like this is that they will get up big early only to put in their subs while Dartmouth covers backdoor.

I'm going with Princeton in the 1st half at -7.5

Does Princeton need to cover the spread for any reason or is it just the win that matters? If covering is not important then I'd be inclined to go for the 1st half play.

I like Princeton to cover rather easily....Dartsmouth has wrapped up the season a long time ago and can't wait for this game to get over before it even starts. I feel the Tigers will dominate and win by atleast 15 or more. Might take the second half to get in done, but they should pound this pathetic Dartsmouth team today.

Final game for Dartmouth coach Faucher. The teams stinks beyond belief, so I won't play them under any circumstances...especially with Princeton obviously not about to take the night off. But Big Green could be pretty emotional tonight, especially as this coach has been there forever. I'm stayin' away (that said, I'd play Princeton with the proverbial gun pointed).

Yep thanks guys...for all intensive purposes they should level Dartmouth tonight.

Winky,

Two things scare me about the number:
1) Princeton is 1-6 ATS in the second game of the Back2Back this year.
2) Penn game on deck and even though they can rap up the conference bid, they may be looking ahead to the Penn game. They are only 6-6 ATS in games BEFORE Penn. Very mediocre considering they (along with Penn) have dominated the IVY's.

Hope this helps.

I agree with you WinOne. They could be looking ahead. However, the 1st half line oftentimes is determined by taking the total game line, dividing by 2 and rounding up a little which is true of this game.

This is a topic I have been mulling for quite some time, especially since college football. These games are often the tale of 2 halves. That's why I think the 1st half bet of -6 1/2 is the way to go.

If a team is going to look ahead to the next game they want to get up big so they can relax in the 2nd half. Few teams want to make it a close one in the final minutes of a game like this.

I do apologize for the crappy insite to this game. Princeton just completely shut down in the second half and let them back in it. Definetly a look ahead to Penn it seems. I hope they lose outright for shutting down the way they did. You didn't see Penn doing that today as they are smoking their opponent and then Princeton will probably beat Penn when they play because everyone will think Princeton sucks for shutting down the way they did...go figure.

Thanks to BGO I went with him on the 1st half. I've seen too many times when teams get big leads and then shuts down.

I do laugh though as Niagara just bailed me out by outscoring Iona in OT 17-3. I don't think I have ever seen a team outscore another by that much in OT. That game WAS a gift.

WinOne, this especially happens this time of the season. The season is long and teams are resting for the tourneys. Penn is playing hard though because they want the respect that they don't feel they are getting.

Thanks for bringing up the topic Winky. I think you are one of the best posters on this board. I don't always agree with your picks but you always help me think about the game.
