had this photo before I even knew who 'ILLINI' was. He was the umpire that tossed out my college baseball coach for bitching about balls and strikes. He did miss a few that day. This was in the local paper the next day. I saved it because it was funny to us that our coach got tossed out and then met the guy a few years later....told him i had this photo...not sure if i ever sent it to him.

heh...I used to always include that warning in pregame with managers

"If you have a complaint or disagreement, wait until play is dead then come to me respectfully and I'll hear you out. If you have a complaint about strike zone, I'll also hear you out and then I will eject you."

as you can kind of tell from the photo - it's the classic...go talk to your pitcher and wait for the ump to come out and give him an ear full...apparently ILLINI didn't like it too much.

I didn't hear boo all game until the 7th inning. He was just pissed because the Illinois coach had given me an earful that previous half-inning, and when a couple borderline pitches didn't go his way the next inning, he thought I had been intimidated. Told me I was getting "big-timed." Guy wouldn't leave the mound, so it was obvious he wanted to be ejected, and left me no choice.

Pretty tough when a douche like that gets to call you "fucking spineless, fucking chickeshit, fucking gutless, etc".....and I can't say shit back to him.

Illini is considering a comeback to collegiate umpiring.

What you should say is that they can't leave their position to argue balls and strikes. They can chirp a little bit here and there from the dugout, and no harm done. But once they start to come out, you don't hear that argument at all. You put up your hand and warn them, and if they keep walking, you toss them immediately. You will have to hear them out afterwards, but nobody comes out to argue balls and strikes with the umpires.

:lol: Good one. So you're a Redbird. I always thought you were a Hawkeye.
family from iowa. Hawkeye for life, Redbird for putting on resume. Heard you were somewhat of a bb player back in the day for the cyclones

In three seasons I only had to toss twice for that reason

And I like to make 'em walk all the way out before I toss 'em

Actually, I had you guys about a week and a half after this for a 4-game series. I told my partner Dan H that I had to work the plate the Friday night game to show that douchebag that I wasn't intimidated by him. Neal Cotts on the mound and about 47 scouts in the house that night. Complete game shutout.

JJB told me the other night that he retired from sports gambling.

I give him about 90 minutes before he gets down on a game once you guys land.
