With the Big-10 games being played in Madison Square Gardens far away from the Midwest campuses before sparse crowds and TV shown on the Big 10 Network only and the seeding's for the NCAA tournament already determined by the "experts", interest seems to have fallen off for these conference tournaments considerably . I remember when you couldn't get a ticket for the ACC conference tournaments ......

That venue in MSG has made the big 10 tournament a whole lot less exciting for me and a lot of fans and students. Plus has added another variable in trying to figure it all out.

I know what you mean United; Why are they not playing the tournament in, say, a Lucas Oil Stadium (Indianapolis) which is centrally located and there are plenty of seats....New York City fits for Rutgers fans I guess........Sad break of tradition and venue..............

I completely agree with you guys here. I am a big east fan however things have changed big time in college. Big 10 tourney belongs in Midwest and ACC tourney belongs in north Carolina. Certain traditions have recently been broken yet it makes no sense at all. these tourneys are for fans and family members. Penn state next closest to nyc 5hours
from original big ten members maybe they rise to occasion and go distance. I went tetlifeno see Lombardi trophy in nyc when Denver played seattle at metlife stadium and said the same thing why the fuck are they playing here money money.

Why is the Big Ten, a conference based in the Midwest, holding its basketball tournament in New York City?

Mostly because of some ideas the conference has about TV and exposure. The Big Ten added Rutgers and Maryland in 2014 to reach the D.C. and New York markets, and the conference views these tournaments as ways to reach the alumni who moved from their Midwest stronghold. It’s also a follow-through on a promise the Big Ten gave Rutgers and Maryland when they joined.
