The Cardinals have clinched the NL Central title and will end their regular season with six consecutive games against the division cellar-dwellers from Pittsburgh. Speaking of which, Johan Oviedo (4-2, 3.13 ERA, 1.28 WHIP) will be pitching against his old team who dealt him to Pittsburgh at the trade deadline.
St. Louis will send Jack Flaherty (1-1, 4.97 ERA, 1.76 WHIP) to the bump after he tossed six innings of three-run, five-hit ball in a 5-4 win over the Padres. Flaherty has started only seven games this season after rehabbing from a shoulder injury that kept him sidelined until the middle of June.
The Cardinals have no reason to go all out as they are already guaranteed a division title and their main concern will be entering the postseason healthy. Conversely, Pirates pitcher Johan Oviedo has been pitching well since he was acquired by Pittsburgh and has an opportunity to show his old team what they’re missing. The price is far too tempting to pass up a bet on the Bucs.
