Ok, perhaps I was a bit harsh in my comments, but if the players are suspended, do the fans go unpunished? The bottom line in this entire mess is that if that fan didn't throw the drink, this never would have happened. Artest's foul was unnecessary, and Wallace's reaction was understood, given the fact the game was already decided and :45 remained on the clock. But Artest removed himself from the fracas by lying down on the scorers table. The drink was thrown and the melee ensued. Stephen Jackson may be a hothead, but he was defending Artest, as were the other players. The most telling piece in that footage, aside from the chair being thrown, is that there were absolutely no fans holding each other back or calming each other down. The fans were on the offensive and the players, even those on Detroit, were on the defensive.
Perhaps Jermaine O'neal is in the wrong business, though, as he laid out that helpless Detroit fan. But what the hell was that guy doing on the court, asking for an autograph? He was there to cause trouble and was dealt with appropriately. The cops were standing two feet away from O'neal and did nothing. What does that tell you?
