Pistons should play the rest of their home games in front of an empty arena

After watching that entire video on Sportscenter, I think that is the only solution. That was absolute madness, instigated by two people, Ben Wallace and the Detroit fans. The only other city where that would have happened would be Philly.

Your an idiot!! This could have happened anywhere. Did the pistons just start playing at the palace? They've won championships in that stadium, they've gone through alot of good and bad in that stadium, with zero problems. Is Artest the first guy to get hit by a beverage? There are ******* fans everywhere.

Ok, perhaps I was a bit harsh in my comments, but if the players are suspended, do the fans go unpunished? The bottom line in this entire mess is that if that fan didn't throw the drink, this never would have happened. Artest's foul was unnecessary, and Wallace's reaction was understood, given the fact the game was already decided and :45 remained on the clock. But Artest removed himself from the fracas by lying down on the scorers table. The drink was thrown and the melee ensued. Stephen Jackson may be a hothead, but he was defending Artest, as were the other players. The most telling piece in that footage, aside from the chair being thrown, is that there were absolutely no fans holding each other back or calming each other down. The fans were on the offensive and the players, even those on Detroit, were on the defensive.

Perhaps Jermaine O'neal is in the wrong business, though, as he laid out that helpless Detroit fan. But what the hell was that guy doing on the court, asking for an autograph? He was there to cause trouble and was dealt with appropriately. The cops were standing two feet away from O'neal and did nothing. What does that tell you?

Absolutely not!! some of those morons deserve jail time. I've been to many games at the Palace and elsewhere, the Piston fans are some of the most well behaved fans anywhere.

Look, I don't care if this happened at Madison Square Garden. The purpose of punishments is to deter the wrongful acts from happening again. The NBA should suspend fans if they are suspending players. This just happens to be one of those situations where a few bad apples spoiled the bunch. I think the general public would applaud the NBA because it would prevent a future riot because the fans would understand that the NBA isn't playing around and views this matter quite seriously.

Surprised this hasn't happened in Chicago.

Questions that need to be asked -

- Why do they serve beer in those plastic bottles?

- Why do they serve beer in the 4th qtr of those games?

Exactly.

That's why they have to allow pot smoking at these games. Mellow out the fans and increase junk food sales 300%. A win-win situation.

Well, I would home all of the NBA players would stage a walkout in protest of Ron Artest having to serve a suspension for the rest of the season. This is such a gross miscarriage of justice. What do the fans get? Absolutely nothing. Fans will continue to act this way because they feel it is their right for paying $100 a seat; that it's carte blanche to do whatever you want. Detroit should play the next 3 home games in front of an empty arena. The loss the Pistons would incur in refunded ticket sales and concessions would serve as a fine for a complete lack of competent security. And the fans would actually get the message that the NBA will not let you act like an English soccer hooligan and get away with it.
