hey labeeb, i don't play matchup bets for a variety of reasons, but i always read your posts in the event i am playing a race in which you've posted a pick. as an aside, and notwithstanding the fact that you won your bet anyway, did you see the trip/ride glassy got yesterday?? i bet glassy at 7/1 and she looked loaded at the top of the lane, sitting behind horses. it looked to me like nakatani tried to get through at the rail (his typical turf ride) and just gave up once the hole didn't open up. i'm not saying she could have beaten charm the giant, who looks like she could be any kind, but i was very disappointed that nakatani didn't try to maneuver around horses once clear and at least try to get second or third money. this is particularly annoying considering glassy likely won't race again until october as racing goes to fairplex next month, sans a turf course.

alas, i just had to vent. everytime you bet nakatani on turf, you assume the risk that he's going to take the shortest way around and try to come through at the rail, but i thought he wrapped up way too early on glassy yesterday.

Funny you should mention that Mazel because I thought the very same thing. Trevor had Glassy pegged as being ready to pounce if someone backed up at the 1/4 pole. Now you see why I don't play exotics. If a horse can't win then motives of the connections start to factor in more and more. I love the fact that he saves as much ground as possible around all turns but when the possibility of winning the race was through he did his best Pat Day impression and wrapped up on the horse and lightly rode the horse through the lane. He did try to make a move at the 3/16 mark, but like you said he got shutoff. When he does have a hole on the lawn, I still think that Nakatani is the best finisher on the West Coast and maybe the country.
