haven't researched this one at all, inclined to go with Phone Booth for the obvious reasons but 5 1/2 million might be too much to lay...

well I'm going to take a Man Apart +5 1/2 mil and hope that the war continues to drive down action movie grosses, which I suppose will make this competition a bit closer.

I think Man Apart and Phone Booth will be neck to neck this weekend.

yeah I tend to agree... I think Phone Booth's advertising has been a bit better, it's getting far superior reviews, and A Man Apart has been "on the shelf" for a while now, which didn't bode well for Vin's other "well, Vin Diesel is a star now, so let's push this sub-par movie into wide-release" , Knockaround Guys. A Man Apart surely will make more than that flop, though, hopefully.

early numbers look like A Man Apart is going to cover.

a man apart got $11.2 while booth got about $15 - meaning it looks very good for a cover for "man" even when the final numbers are released.
