It may be a hard pill to swallow for us private-sector schmoes, but truth is, long-serving elected officials reap generous pension benefits upon retirement.
Take Mayor Nutter. When he leaves office at the end of this year, he will be entitled to a $166,130 yearly pension for life after serving more than 22 years as a public servant.
And if you are someone like Lynne Abraham, 74, who began working for the city as an assistant district attorney when the Bee Gees released their first international album in 1967, your pension benefit after two terms could exceed $266,000 a year.
