The premiere episode of the highly anticipated new series The People v. OJ Simpson opened with the grisly death of the former football great's ex-wife - and the evidence used against him when he went on trial for her murder.
'She's practically decapitated,' notes prosecutor Marcia Clark (played by Sarah Paulson) as she looks at crime scene photos of Nicole Brown Simpson, who was killed alongside her friend Ronald Goldman.
The show then carefully lays out all the evidence that made Simpson a suspect in the murder, beginning with traces of blood found on the outside and inside of his white Ford Bronco and a trail of blood leading into his home.
There were also bloody footprints at the scene of the crime outside Nicole's Brentwood condo and that infamous black glove - one at the murder scene and one on Simpson's own property.
Clark also in once scene reveals that 911 had been called eight times by Nicole before her death, and that she had been found with a bruised face on one occasion and a bleeding lip on another.
In one incident she claimed Simpson had attacked her windshield with a baseball bat.
'The system failed her,' says Clark.
'He got away with beating her, he’s not going to get away with killing her.'
