Does anyone know what the penalties are for bookmaking - both Federal and in the state of New Jersey? (or generally in any state) Is it a misdemeanor? At what point does it become Federal and not just state? Any help would be appreciated.

Book making ???
Lets start by saying it could be a misdemeanor. It could be a felony. It could be go under RICO.
It could go under new terrorist bill. It could go under Money Laundering. Or maybe under a IRS case. Kinda think it would come down to who bust you and how bad they want to make it for you. Local cop small time opperation maybe class A misdemeanor. Feds maybe Rico Act so felony. And of course they will turn you over to the IRS. That is how they get paid. Booking is gambling. No matter what you rather have a square hit 5 four teamers than get caught....
The IRS will cut yur nuts off... Because they will asume that everything you own came from gambling profits..... Leave the booking to the offshore guys or hell move to Costa Rica . No snow there or at least the kind you have to shovel...
