For what it's worth, I tend to get my clock cleaned at big Stakes days like this. Expectations are low but what an amazing day of racing is on tap. No rain, 79 degrees. Can't beat it!
Race 1 - #8 Devious Charm (12-1) Has yet to beat winners so the public should be shying away, but she's been tearing it up in the mornings since early December.
Race 2 - #4 Extreme Force (12-1) Shares a mother with Spun To Run and will relish the added distance. Could surprise at a price.
Race 3 - #5 Fielder (12-1) Sticking with the 12-1 ML theme for the early pick three, I landed on this guy who has talent and should benefit from a month in the Walder barn.
Race 4 - #3 Express Pharoah (15-1) I like a couple of the first time starters here, but its tough to debut at 7f so I'm looking to a colt with some experience. This son of AmPhar makes a positive barn switch and take the blinkers off after a 90 day freshening.
Race 5 - #5 Jean Elizabeth (7-2) Incredibly talented mare making her turf debut today. If she takes to the grass, this is probably the best price we'll ever get on her again.
Race 6 - #1 La Feve (15-1) I went back and watched that last start - she made a VERY impressive wide run. Faster pace today should benefit her.
Race 7 - #13 Chewing Gum (15-1) Everything points to Free Enterprise but I just can't do it. I hate the 13 post here, but can't ignore the two runs on dirt at Churchill. At least I know I'll get double digits.
Race 8 - #4 Mean Mary (8-1) Lone speed? Can she get easy fractions? Can she get the extra distance? Lots of questions, I hope she answers them.
Race 9 - #11 Pink Sands (8-1) Loves the track (3 for 4 here) and will benefit from a brisk pace. Should be flying into the exotics late.
Race 10 - #1 Red Knight (3-1) Another who does his best work late. He just looks the class of this field from every perspective. Hope to get a fair price.
Race 11 - #1 Zulu Alpha (12-1) Would probably like a little more distance but since this race is completely devoid of any early pace I think it benefits him more than the other contenders.
Race 12 - #2 Tax (8-1) With the defections of the two favorites I'll be lucky to see 3-1 here, but I think this race is his to lose.
As you can see I am playing for the big hit today. It only takes one or two - you never know.
Good luck to all the horse players!
