Pedro offers to play another position

With Jason Varitek serving a suspension and Doug Mirabelli filling in behind the plate, Mientkiewicz is No. 2 on the depth chart at catcher, which would have led to some interesting alternatives had Mirabelli gone down.

"We had Gabe (Kapler, an outfielder) on red alert," Francona said. "Pedro (Martinez) volunteered, but Mientkiewicz at second base is as far as we're going to go."


What position would Pedro have filled in for? Gotta admire the fact that he at least offered to fill in. With all the injusries Boston has sustained this it's great to see other players stepping in up.

He actually isnt as BAD as people make him out to be.

Manny gets a bad rap . He was all but traded also but has come back and had a humongous season. Nomar sulked all year until he was dealt.
