Did anyone else get an email today about a class action lawsuit and PayPal? (I did not read the entire email--WAY TOO LONG.) What I don't understand (among other things) is exactly what it is they are charged with? From my scanning it quickly--I read something to the effect that they did not inform their customers about something that has to do with electronic $ transfers.
What a country.

Sherman, I deleated it. Was hoping someone here could shed some light on it. Basically it said that everyone that had an account with PayPal between 1999 and 2002, were part of the lawsuit unless they xxxxxxxx (legal mumble-jumble). I closed my PayPal account between 1 and 2 years ago.
Nobody else here knows anything??

I got the email and I read it.

Basically all Persons who opened a PayPal account during the period from October 1, 1999 through January 31, 2004 are in the class.

Paypal will pay 9.25 million to settle the case steming from EFT's done illegally, lack of statement provided to customers and seizing of accounts with no appeal.

Customers in the class will be in only 1 of 2 categories. Dispute resolution claimants - You had your account seized. Or Statutory Damage Fund Claimants - You had an account that was never seized.

You must file a claim to receive any relief. Go to https://www.paypal.com/settlement/ to file a claim.

Thanks Monicus for your reply.

You are part of it, but just don't expect much. They just settled the case so there was no major payout. In these cases the attorneys will take 30-50% off the top and the rest will go to claimants. If you do bother to get involved don't be surprised to get a check for a dime. I have received some beauties, one time I got a check for a credit card overcharge suit...for $0.07.

Hey Wild Bill,
When one doesn't know they are in a lawsuit, one does not expect anything.

I just didn't like the idea of my name --attorneys "at law" and PayPal mentioned in the same sentence. (It must be nice for folks to go see an attorney everytime something they don't like happens. I'm not saying this was the case HERE--but when it's class action--just doesn't seem like it was that "earthshaking". It's funny--I used to get so damn mad at PayPal or one certain book when I could not get my emails answered. Or when they did answer it was a form letter-email that really didn't address what I asked--but like all good companies--sent me on the run around to where the email should be sent. Only happened one time and the bottom line was it was the books fault anyway. But--they could have answered my email VERY SIMPLY. Yet it took a long drawn out nothing to tell me nothing.
Then when they dropped all gaming companies after becoming part of Ebay---ONE certain book, which I will not name --continued to take PayPal under a certain Casino name.
Then that stopped and get fake emails from PayPal.
Oh well like I said --glad it's nothing and at least one other here got the email.

Thanks ClevFan,

I glanced at that website and it appears that Ebay is involved. The email which I received never mentioned Ebay--only PayPal and was on a PayPal style layout letter (logo) (background). At first I thought it was from PP or another fraud.
