Don't do it!!! Would be the biggest mistake of your life! No medical care, and even if they get medical care there, it may not last. The town is booming now, as everything in NV is booming now, but it will be one of the first and hardest hit when the inevitable bust or even mini-bust hits.

Just move to Vegas...expensive to buy a house at first but the equity should increase and it has a relatively cheap cost of living...if you can keep away from the machines!

Pahrump is home of the world famous CHICKEN RANCH brothel.

They have 3-4 below average casinos.

They have a really nice golf course, plus an executive par 59 which is really nice.

The town has many pre-fab and trailer like homes within its city limits.

The road between Las Vegas and Pahrump sends you directly into what is known as AREA 51, the area of many many world famous UFO and alien sightings.................this can lead to high anxiety when traveling this road alone at night. Its just you and the desert......and possible aliens.

I contemplated moving to Pahrump when I lived in Vegas......cheaper housing, cleaner air, less scumbags, chicken ranch, good golf, and close to Vegas.

However, the town is just to westernish hickish for me. The town can be very dusty as nothing is around to stop the winds and this makes for some adverse conditions in the many dust storms that hit the area.

There really is NOTHING to do in the town other than what I listed above.

Its an OK place though..........and I would live there before ever living in Las Vegas again.

Pahrump is a hellhole. If you want to live outside of Vegas look into Mesquite.Imo it is much nicer. There are beautiful homes going up and some nice golf courses. But yes like Stew said all of NV is booming now.Mesquite is I think 60 miles from vegas and much nicer. It is on the border w/ AZ.

Mesquite is MUCH nicer than Pahrump..........and would consider moving there.

Beautiful area and is close to the UTAH border.

St. George, Utah is another nice city.

I find myself having more and more trouble listening to noory at night now that art is confined to weekends...

Noory is coming out of his shell and being more like himself instead of art bell who he acted more like initially.

For a retiree I think Pahrump is a better choice than Mesquite. It is closer to Vegas by almost a half-hour and there is more of a community focus there. Mesquite is all focused on the casinos, at least half the people living out there are casino workers. Casinos and golf are definitely better out in Mesquite, but you are less than an hour drive in Pahrump and to make it even better it is always a few degrees cooler there due to slightly higher altitude.

That all being said you will be driving into Vegas quite a lot. Other than groceries and fast food, not much out there to keep your house stocked or to keep you busy. As for the advice of living in Vegas, I don't know how long it will be an attractive place for seniors. Little thing that people seem to miss is that while the tax climate is favorable for workers, I don't think it will continue to be for seniors. They need to build a lot of schools all over the state and inevitably that will mean more property taxes. Right now there is this big battle of trying to make new residents pay more than normal share for it, but that argument won't last forever as the new resident growth as a percentage of the population is expected to tail off as soon as 4 years from now. In the end though people will not give up their income tax free status without a serious fight so people that are retired and making relatively low incomes will not benefit from the tax structure in the state.

Used to make the trip from Vegas to Pahrump every couple of months to play the tuff Calvada Country Club. The course has no sand but 19 water hazzards. Lots of wind and undulating greens together with the water make the course challenging.
