this is a fight that i must say,i`m looking forward to about as much as any fight i can remember.....

maybe because i just love watching marquez ply his trade....

i`m biased....i admit it....i`ll be wagering on marquez....as much out of respect as any real belief he`ll beat pacquaio....

a technician`s technician...with a little something extra...the ability to throw multiple combinations with leverage from angles and positions that a human being shouldn`t be able to do...ricardo lopez-esque....

the breakdown,as i see it, is this....marquez is beautiful to watch.....a damging puncher..body and head....actually a vicious body puncher......he has power even though i don`t know whether i`d call him a one punch k.o. artist....he tends to wear guys down...break them down over a period of rounds...

pacquaio is an offensive machine....he has come all the way up from flyweight to be what many think is a dominating featherweight....and has appeared to carry some legit power with him...

he`s busy....and shows solid stamina...again,like marquez,he can punch...but again,as like marquez,i`m not sure if he`s a one punch power guy as a featherweight....

in the barrera fight i didn`t think it was his power that beat m.a.b....it was his relentless attack..his lefty style.....his quickness...he`ll be the quicker guy in this fight....i think he wore down barrera...discouraged him.....i think he overwhelmed him by outworking him...not by out-powering him...

the question in my mind is whether marquez is prepared for somebody that will press him and make him work.....marquez isn`t used to guys pressing him...he can usually set his own pace.....he takes his time and breaks opponents down...pacquaio with that lefty style will be on him...making him fight from round one....if marquez isn`t prepared to get off the dime, from the jump, the fight might fall into a similar pattern as barrera/pacquaio....

if marquez isn`t tight....and sharp...and willing to up his work rate...make pacquaio pay for his offensive style,he will be in trouble...

the questions are....

1)does marquez have trouble with lefty`s?...many thought he beat norwood...but,norwood made him look bad in parts of their fight...marquez was confused....the gainer fight wasn`t really a fight...nothing to be learned fronm that mess...there is a legit question on marquez vs lefty`s....very legit,imo...

2)was barrera on the downside of a brilliant career?.....pacquaio didn`t look like the stronger guy early in the barrera fight(the first 2 rounds)...if i recall,he was actually stunned early...

it seemed like barrera faded as the fight unfolded....was it from manny`s high volume of punches?....or have all the wars diminished barrera to the point that a top challenger like pacquaio with enormous offensive pressure made him wilt?....

marquez hasn`t been in many wars in his career...he`s fresh,in that respect...

he`s also been a feather his whole career...

as i said,i`m biased...still,there are many unanswered questions here...

pacquaio is allegedly dispatching sparring partners right and left in camp.....

marquez has been embarrassed that as a champion,he is being disrespected....the pacquaio camp is already planning for a morales mega-fight....

in one corner you have freddie roach....a fantastic trainer,imo......

in the other corner, nacho beristain....one of the legendary latin trainers that handled such greats as hall of famer daniel zaragosa and the great, great ricardo lopez as well as marquez and his brother rafael....

i`m taking the underdog...probably because i just love his style.....if he fights his usual cool, calm "i`ll beat you at my own pace" type of fight,he may be in some trouble...

i can`t wait till saturday....

Wooo hooooo big fights!!!!!!! Nothing better than a big fight that the "public" doesn't know about. Usually means its gonna be a good one .

Good writeup. I am leaning toward Manny I think he is something special.

What are the current odds?

You cant even overstate how great of a fight this is. I mean this fight is ridiculous. I give props to HBO and everyone involved for making this fight happen. I cant believe I havent seen one HBO promotion for this. I've had HBO on a few times this week and havent seen any build up for it.

This is two top 10 maybe even top 5 P4P guys at the top of their game going at it. It's rare and its beautiful. This is how it should be. Nobody is even talking about it either. This is going to be one of the greatest fights of the decade in regards to a world class fight.

I'm sorry but after watching Manny's last performance theres no way in hell I'm betting against him. I'm going to lay off on betting a side in this fight but I was wondering what you think about the over 10.5 rounds at +130? I have a feeling that this probably will go the distance. In regards to Mannys last fight he just flat out broke Barrera down. I dont know if I would say Barrera's on the downside of his career. Its possible, but I think that he had a bad camp for that fight which led to a not so great performance. The Barrera that fought Morales would of been able to take Mannys attack alot better.

I would be careful of taking Marquez in this fight. Manny is as you said - relentless. Plus he has maybe the best trainer in the game in his corner. And Marquez might possibly also have a problem with southpaws? My lean is towards Manny but I think I'm just going to sit back and enjoy this one, maybe bet the over. I'm dumping serious dough on the Kings at +160 to beat the Twolves in their series so I'm kind of tied up right now with my allocated betting funds.

But I just dont see how you could bet against Manny with confidence the way he is fighting right now.

Sphinch-MAGNIFICENTwrite-up and analysis. Every-thing I've been thinking and then some. Maybe the intangibles will decide; desire, stamina,
focus. These two guys are hi-line pros and it
may be a classic, I hope. I like JMM.

alm and franks.....i can`t say a word against anyone that likes manny here....he`s the favorite for a reason.....i don`t dispute that he`s the hot guy....the lefty...the quicker guy...

i have a thing for marquez` style..always loved the guy....i watched as naseem hamed avoided him like the plague.....i`ve waited for him to get a super fight and here it is...

this is it...either he steps up to stake his claim to a certain level of superstardom.......or,it all comes crashing down....

no excuses can be made,imo....both guys are basically in their prime...both guys have stayed relatively active...

one thing`s for sure....we are gonna have a new superstar on the boxing scene after this one...

kudos to both for stepping up like champs are supposed to....and manny says,"bring on morales next"..........

you gotta love these guys....

as far as the o/u,i`d probably lean to the over...but,i`m not touching it,myself....

what a fight...

A fight fans fight. No bs, no hype. The public
loves heavyweights; all the beautiful people show up for them. I'll be proud to be at the
MGM this week with all the blue collars who
love boxing and appreciate what is on tap this
weekend. I just hope Marquez weathers the storm that is Pac-man. Kind of like a hurricane; real
powerful at some point them it begins to lose
power and energy as it lingers on. Woo-hoo!

Yeah Spinch, I was also going to commend you on the great writeup. I wouldnt go as far to say it all comes crashing down for the loser though.
The loser of this fight loses to a top 5 P4P fighter. Some could make a legit argument that the winner of this fight is the p4p king. No shame in that.

But seriously, big time kudos to these guys for fighting each other. This is a serious boxing fans dream fight. Its really too bad the public isnt on to it.

What do you think about the Kings play Spinch?

Just another word on this. Everyone knows as Marquez himself has stated, he starts slow. He
is methodical in his approach, not unlike his
"other" profession as an accountant for the
Mexican government. Pac-man, I feel will attempt
to counter this by trying to set the pace and
take Marquez off his game. I believe Roach realizes that as this goes into deeper waters,
Marquezs' chances only get that much better. Of
course, they will not say this in public. Therefore, I will play under 10.5-136 at Pinnacle.

Its too bad El Pollo had to pull out of that Cotto fight. I thought that would have been a real interesting encounter as well.

Amazingly, I speak to a guy yesterday who is
very involved with the sport. He was the events manager at Mandalay Bay. He has dealt personally
with Don King and has boxed for many years. He
now trains youngsters to fight. He knows mucho
world champs on a first name basis. He likes
Marquez based on his experience. This guy doesn't even gamble. He is just a wealth of knowledge when it comes to boxing . He may not
be right this time, who knows. But I am glad
he said what he said.

marquez should be pissed...

i don`t think i`ve seen one expert pick marquez.......has anybody heard of any writer or fighter or boxing expert picking marquez?.....

thanks.

Marquez has the titles but beating any version of MAB is a hell of a lot more impressive than wins over gainer and Medina. MAB was considered the people's champ, well now that title goes to Manny. He is the guy with the bigger win and will be making more $$$ than Marquez as well because HBO likes him so much. Oh yeah the reason I meant to post on this thread is to say a few people pick Marquez, here they are.....

Kevin Iole - Marquez by decision
(Everyone remembers the Barrera fight, but Marquez was probably the best featherweight in the world even then. Marquez is naturally bigger and is extraordinarily hungry.)

Jack Dunne - Marquez, UD
(With respect to Manny Pacquiao, who showed up to fight the fight of his life against Marco Antonio Barrera last November. That was the worst looking 'Baby Faced Assassin' the world has ever seen and I believe too many people are jumping on the band wagon. Sixty fights and 14 years in, perhaps the day was overdue, taking no credit from Pac-man who clearly was the better man that night. Marquez AIN'T that guy! In fact Marquez has a habit of demolishing opposition which puts pressure on him unlike Barrera who had become more of a fundamental fighter by the time he faced Manny. I have recently watched Marquez score brutal knockouts with either hand against aggressive opposition. Aggression is something I expect from Pacquiao. The world is about to find out why "Prince" Naseem Hamed ran from Marquez like the plague during Naz's WBO featherweight reign.)

Marty Mulcahey - Read Text Below for Prediction
(The question for me is... is it possible for Pacquiao to be as good as he looked against Barrera, and can Marquez beat a top notch southpaw? I tend to think the odds are better on Marquez beating a lefty, then Pacman being as tremendous as he looked against Barrera. I also think Pacquiao is a small featherweight, who must come forward to be effective. I am not sure Manny is strong enough in the upper body to move Marquez with any consistency. Marquez prefers to have people come to him, and the main reason I pick Marquez is his incredible balance. Juan Manuel seems to always be in a position to deliver a punch, while Pacquiao has a tendency to overextend himself. Marquez was my pick for the man that would unseat and take over the reign of Barrera, now he has that chance...., only he will beat Pacquiao for it now.)

thanks for the info...my main point is that marquez actually holds the belts...i understand the people`s champion thing.....imo,obviously beating barrera was huge for manny....

but the billing for this fight seems to reflect some sort of mismatch(and the odds are beginning to reflect it to a lesser extent)...

i think manny`s getting top billing has more to do with p.r. then anything else....by that i mean that he is obviously hbo`s next marquee guy....because he talks...he`s out there...

he`s the antithesis of marquez...he`s talking about "beating all the mexicans".....he`s already talking about a morales fight.....

they opened up his camp and are getting huge play out of manny "decapitating" sparring partner after sparring partner...

all the while, marquez and beristain quietly go about their business in the mountains.....no braggadocio...

he doesn`t sell like pacquaio...

manny is a dream come true for hbo...

my only hope is that are no cuts....and that there is a clear cut winner...no b.s....

Theres some heavy action going down on Manny at Olympic. He was -140 a few days ago and is now -175. In regards to that poster I think thats probably from Mannys promotional company.
HBO's poster of them on their boxing site has them standing side by side.

Steve Kim - Marquez by Decision
(In a close and competitive bout, I think Marquez's advantage in size and reach will be the difference.)

Thomas Gerbasi - Marquez TKO 8 (Cuts)

I agree with them all, too. That's why I took JMM for +160 at WSEX. Get it while it's good.
