Tax office clarifies vibrator claims

From: AAP

May 05, 2006

VIBRATORS, whips and G-strings – who'd have thought tax could be so exciting?
The Australian Tax Office has issued a revised set of tips for workers in adult industries in an information sheet that would have accountants blushing.

With the decriminalisation of the sex industry well entrenched, the tax office is facing more questions from escorts, strippers and dancers about the ins and outs of deductions and penalties.......(more)........

On a similar note, and to demonstrate that I doubt you're looking at Aussie-style tax rules on sex toys, strippers, hookers, etc. any time soon:

Bill would make sale of sex toys illegal in South Carolina

COLUMBIA, S.C. - Sugar 'N Spice manager Pat Irons says a proposal to outlaw the sale of sex toys in South Carolina is outrageous.

But banning the sale of sex toys is actually quite common in some Southern states.

The South Carolina bill, proposed by Republican Rep. Ralph Davenport, would make it a felony to sell devices used primarily for sexual stimulation and allow law enforcement to seize sex toys from raided businesses.

The measure would add sex toys to the state's obscenity laws, which already prohibit the dissemination and advertisement of obscene materials.

People convicted under obscenity laws face up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine...

Stupid thing is if you interviewed the guy he would say he was put there by God to make sure people stopped being obscene, like when they have a healthy sex drive. What a moron!

South Carolina was just added to my list of US States I could never live in.

Best line in the article
Though the laws don't punish people for owning sex toys, banning their sale is a backdoor attempt to discourage their use, Lopez said.

It's all smoke and mirrors anyway. Sex toys are illegal in Alabama, but you can buy them at numerous places that operate right out in the open, to say nothing about teh Internets. Like most other blue laws it's only enforced when politically expedient.
