I looked at all the ways I could take Denver here, and I just can't come up with enough reasons to do that, not even with 4.5 points. And remember only 5 teams have lost and yet covered in SB history, so the odds are that the winner will also cover the spread. I picked this up in O'FRED'S THREAD!

Arizona did it vs pitt in 09, new england in 97 vs gb, pitt did it vs dallas in 96, carolina In 04 vs pats, phily in 05 vs pats, titans did it in 00 vs rams. I have that at 6 times the line mattered.

When pitt covered in back to back superbowls in 79 and 1980 they covered by the hook and 1 pt in those sbs

I keep telling myself this is the 50th anniversary for the NFL & the refs will keep it close. I just can't see a blowout again for Manning, BUT I do see Carolina winning SU.......27-24

The lowest I've heard the line being was -3.5......& Vegas & the books would get middled & crushed if the game landed anywhere from 4 to 6 points......with that said, I see a Carolina 3 point win......just can't see Denver winning SU.......Manning, aka "noodle arm" will have to prove me wrong. I know their defense is great, but their defense isn't exceptional like Seattle 2 years ago, or the Ravens in 2000.

100% correct! Gbay opened -14.5 vs Pats & the line was gone within hours, & was -14 until kickoff.

SI shows 64% on the Pats last year, 56% onparlays with Pats & 55% on Over.......wouldn't that mean they got crushed? But they stated they made over $300 million in profits.......

That's why I think consensus seems skewed a lot. It's bets. Not money but to me more ppl bet Pats last yr than Seattle. Idk, Vegas doesn't just get juice. That's a myth. Though it's a small platform in comparison to cards roulette and slots IMO....

The winning team is 41-6-2 against the spread, or 87%. In all other NFL games the winning team is 83%. Given a sample size of 49 games, that doesn't tell us anything about the Super Bowl being any different compared to the other 20 weeks.

Understood, & this was being pasted all over the place before the Pats back to back wins in the SB but no cover vs Eagles & Carolina......then Pitt won & no cover as well vs Cards.......

Will we see a win but no cover this year? Your guess is as good as mine........

Given the small sample size, 6 of 49 is pretty close to the ~17% of games that the spread historically comes into play.

In 1979, Vegas got middled in the Pitt vs Dallas SB, also known as black Sunday.......the line got as high as -4.5, closed at -3.5, & the game finished on 4.......I wonder if we see another black Sunday?

This years line opened -3.5, got as high as -6, & if the game lands on 4 or 5, books will get crushed.

nah I'm sure the NFL will tell its refs to handle it properly. Hahaha!
