NEW JERSEY -½ +1.30 over Philadelphia (REG)
If you didn’t watch the Flyers/Caps game yesterday then you might not be aware of just how one-sided the first 40 minutes was. Philly won 7-1 but they were absolutely dominated and only the goaltending of Antero Niittymaki prevented the score from being 7-1 in the Caps favor. In fact, at one point in the first period, the Flyers were being out-shot 25-2. By the third period the game was out of hand and the Caps just gave up but ended up out-shooting Philly, 48-28. The Flyers looked flat, tired and outclassed and it was probably the least deserving win of the year by any team in the NHL. That’s not to say they’re a bad team because they’re not. They’re a rock solid squad that is dangerous as hell. Thing is, they won yesterday and had they lost after being dominated they’d likely show a lot more focus today. However, they didn’t and that was stolen points they got yesterday. Now the Flyers will play their fourth game in six days, their third game in four days and the tail-end of back-to-back afternoon games, not to mention traveling after that big win yesterday. The Devils are rested, they’re playing great, they’re scoring goals like never before and Bobby Holik and Brian Rolston are both looking better with each passing game. Man, this one looks strong. Play: New Jersey -½ +1.30 (Risking 3 units).
