Having grown up and attended college in Mississippi, these are the two teams I know best. As many of you know, we've made a fortune this season going against State and, for the most part, with the Rebels. The next two teams I know best are Florida and Florida St. I lived in Sarasota when Bobby Bowden first came to FSU and have followed his illustrious career ever since.

Anyway, back to the subject at hand. First of all, back in September when several of the books offered "games of the year" where you could place bets on certain games later in the season, I wagered on two of them. One was FSU over Notre Dame at -8, and I think the final spread was -13, and of course they won by 37 or something. And the other was Ole Miss over Miss St at -4. Right now I wish I had put a whole helluva lot more money on that one, having no idea it would be around -20 by game week.

Anyway, since I know these teams almost too well, I was wondering what some of you who might be more objective think about this game. On the one hand, I see Ole Miss a far superior squad who could literally blow State off the map. On the other hand, this is probably the first game in months that MSU is really interested in. They would love nothing more than to send their beloved (?) Sherrill off with a fine upset over their hated arch rival. The Dawgs will scrape and claw in this one and try to make sure the Rebs don't make it to Atlanta in the event of an Arkansas upset over LSU (which is not, IMO, that far-fetched.) The Rebs have played several back-to-back games with great intensity. Could they slack off against a wounded foe, even though that foe is their hated rival?

I'd love to hear some opinions on this game. Even though I am quite comfy already having the Rebels at -4, I'm still considering putting some action on the game as it is. I just haven't decided which side to go with. What do you think?

Ole miss coming off a very tough loss to a very tough team in LSU, and with mississippi state literally being one of the worst teams in all of college football. I dont think there is any way this one is close. this rivalry is huge, ole miss will be there ready to play, and with eli manning in the national spotlight he proves to the world furthermore that he should be the heisman trophy winner. mississippi state has only covered the spread 2 out of 11 times all year. you either put your money on ole miss or nothing at all. i dont know about you but i would never put my confidence or my money on a team that is 2-9 ats this year. ole miss is 6/7 ats in their last 7 games. gotta love ole miss here.

Here is my objective opinion....

I think the game in Oxford last week was easily the most emotion that has EVER been seen in that stadium. The Rebs were playing their asses off the entire game...KUDOS! Additionally, they spent a great deal of concentration in their two week prepartion for the LSU game. No matter WHO the opponent was the next week, I think Ole Miss would be flat. Even more better is the total lack of respect (justifiablly) the Rebs are giving Miss. St. There is no way you could find one person out of 1,000 in Oxford that would expect anything other than a huge win over State. Add into this mix the fact that the Ole Miss fans, students and players are ALL looking to Arkansas for some help getting to Atlanta, and you've got a CLASSIC letdown/overlook opportunity. Now, I promise you that Miss. State is going to put more into this game than Ole Miss...you know they would like to give Ole Miss a big shit-burger to eat.

Ole Miss 34 - 24

100,000% agree with LSUpete

we have a major flat spot/letdown here for Ole Miss. i also think we have to put every MSU game behind us - for this is jackie sherrill's LAST game. i think many of the MSU players "packed it in" for the last few games - saving their best effort "for coach's last game." i think you get the very best showing of the season from MSU (ok - not that hard to do - and even at their very best - MSU still blows) but add in a letdown from ole miss and a fired up MSU team and i think MSU and the points is one of the very best bets on the board this week.

I agree with Pete and Wink. This is the only game State has circled since about the 2nd week of the season. Throw in a let down spot for Ole Miss, and a heated rivalry game, this one points to the dog.

They won't quit in this one. I'm grabbing the points for a very small amount.

Boyos...what I can't understand is I come up with a line of about -30-35, and the line is -19 or so...Looks to me that the Vegas boys are begging for Ole money.

Being Sherrills last game do you think the coach of Ole Miss will have a little class and not run up the score if ther up by 3 td's in the 4th quarter???

OK, guys, here's what I've decided to do:

Teaser:

Ole Miss -13
Over 52.5

I like this one. A good solution for the current line. Good luck, guys!

I have lost so much money on MSU this year I don't know if I can back them one more time. Even when they get off to a good start, they self-destruct at some point and give up 3 or 4 td'd in no time. When they get off to a bad start, it stays ugly. But, if I get 21, they can get my money one last time!

First of all, I am not a capper by no means. From the way it looks, most of the "smart money" and most of the cappers are on Ole Miss. I have to agree with the others that Ole Miss will be in the "let down" mode and Miss St will be hyped for the last game for Coach Sherrill. There's NO WAY under those circumstances and not to mention an in-state rivalary that I would lay that many points especially on the road. I may be dead wrong, but I would either "no play" it or play Miss State plus the points! No disrespect to any of the guys in here that are on the Rebs strong, just my 2 cents..

Realizing that rivalry games are generally dog picks, and realizing that there could be a let down; one unmistakenable fact is that Miss St is a team which has lost it's last 5 games by an average score of 38 and it's last by 46.

Their pass defense completely sucks and I really don't see any reason to believe that things can change at this point. If there is a let down and if Miss St. gives 100% they should still lose by 3TDs.

It's hard for me to justify betting a team that's almost giving up 40pts per game, rivalry or not, these guys stink.
