Oldmans Picks For Sunday 9/26/04

Once again decided to post this play early as fully expect the line on this game to continue to creep higher. Simply don't see how Tampa Bay is going to be able to put much on the board as this team is really struggling and will be without wide receivers Keenan McCardell and Joe Jurevicius plus they have absolutely no running game and are going up against an Oakland defense that limited Buffalo running back Travis Henry to 67 yards on 21 carries last week. Can Brad Johnson bounce back this week? Pretty difficult without weapons to go to and a Raider defense that is pretty solid and includes many players that would like to make a statement against their former coach Gruden following the loss in the Superbowl two years ago. That all being said, Raiders are not exactly world beaters either, but match-ups in this particular game strongly favor Oakland and they still possess a number of very skilled players both offensively and defensively. Add to that strong motivation and emotion, the nationally televised game on ESPN, playing at night in front of the Raider Nation, who no doubt will be foaming at the mouth by 8:30 p.m. EST, makes this game worthy of a release. I may be back with a play or two for the earlier games, not certain at this time as I'm still studying. Just wanted to post this before the line moves. Hence,

My opinion on the Raider game still remains very strong. Just simply do not see any means for this Tampa Bay offense to be able to move the ball consistently in any manner without any offensive weapons. They will have to rely on their defense to make turnovers or the Raiders to self destruct to shorten the field in order for them to put points on the board. And this Tampa Bay team is a shell of it's former self when winning the Superbowl two years ago. Because of this, I've decided to bump the rating on this play. This will be my first increase of a released play since posting of the regular season began for both college and pro. I have released a total of 21 plays, college and pro combined so far in four weeks, going 14-6-1. Today, warrants an increase in this rated play. Thus revising the rating to reflect a stronger play. Pay the additional vig if necessary.
