While it is true that both Auburn and Virginia Tech possess very balanced offenses with sound running games as well as quality passing attacks, it is defense that has separated these two teams and provided each team their respective conference titles, namely the SEC and ACC respectively. Both top notch conferences with quality teams and programs being faced week in and week out throughout the season. Feeling here is that these two teams will continue to play sound defensive football causing each team to have to work hard for both yardage and points. Hence,

1* Virginia Tech/Auburn Under 44.5 (Free Half Point)

Overall Unit Record YTD: (44-35.2)(+8.80) 3*(0-1)(-3.30) 2*(2-0)(+4.00) 1*(40-29-1)(+8.10)
Overall W/L Record YTD: (42-30-1) 58.33%
NCAAF Record YTD: (30-26-1)(+2.40)
NFL Record YTD: (12-4)(+6.40)

Plays are rated 1*-3*

Good Luck All.

Ted,

Would love to see the NC trophy on the West Coast, but preferably in the Oregon State trophy case! Probably not in my lifetime but then I never thought a MWC team could finish in the top 5 so you never know.

How about the national champion BYU Cougars who capped off their unbeaten season circa 1984 by beating the worst Michigan team (6-5 in the regular season and injury-riddled) I can remember?

Of course at that point the MWC didn't exist yet.

Mr. Leisure:

Glad to see you shopped and got a good number. As for the National Championship, I have yet to decide whether I will be on a side, total or simply pass and watch the game, as this match-up has all the makings of being a classic as both teams are well balanced both offensively and defensively and loaded with top level talent throughout and should match-up very well. We shall see.

Have looked forward to your posts since I've found the prescription. It seemed to me that the total was higher than I woud have expected it to be. Wondering why? I would have thought this game would have opened at 41 or 42 and dropped. Just curious why it opened so high and has actually creeped up to 45 in some places? Your thoughts are appreciated Oldman. Thanks for your insights.

Sorry. Been away all day and just got back. As for my thoughts regarding why the total was set at 44 and is moving up toward 45, believe the reasoning is because both teams possess balanced offenses both on the ground and in the air with star quality talent. My belief is that defenses control and dictate the tempo and outcome of top tier games when quality teams meet and match-up well. Defense wins games as well as championships and this game is at a high enough level, that defense should dictate the winner. Best of luck to you tonight as well as everyone else. Should be a very entertaining game.

Overall, it has been a winning bowl season. Not as good as last year, but profitable just the same. Because so many games I found difficult to play going in, I found myself more comfortable making a number of second half plays after seeing the teams match-up and watching their execution. Regarding Oklahoma in the Orange Bowl tomorrow, I have yet to decide whether I will be playing a side, total or passing in tomorrow night's game. Looks like an excellent match-up. I hope to provide the forum with an in depth analysis by mid afternoon tomorrow if I'm feeling up to it regardless if I play the game or not.
