for my grandfather.

Okay, I don't want to spend too much (heck, if I'm spending $400 on my grandpa, how much for my parents!!!!) but I think this would be an ideal gift for him.

I just need something simple that will show yardage. Things to keep in mind is that he does not use the computer so i would have to download the courses (if that is how these things work). If there is one where I can select a course and go...that would be great.

Cost is also a factor (actual cost and yearly fees).

anyone with ideas? My friend got one for $125 + $30/yr so I was interested....only to find these other ones are $250-$500!!! yikes

Get him a laser range finder. I have a Bushnell that cost around 400 bucks. No downloading or waiting for data. All you need to know is how to change a nine volt battery and how to look through a box and push a button. He can just point and have the exact yardage to his targets. I even have a bit of the shakes and I'm still able to get precise readings. If he plays a lot of golf, it's the greatest gift you can get him. My friend has a cheaper version that cost around 200 bucks but it takes longer to get readings and I have trouble because of my shakes. It really is a simple gadget that he will have the hang of in less than 5 minutes.

I can get you a sky caddie SG2 with a car charger and travel case for $150 plus shipping.

They are a closeout model but will perform all the options that the SG5 will do, other than a color screen.

Go to your local golf course and ask about buying their Demo range finder. Same product but it obviously is a demo. Much much cheaper.

I would go with the Bushnell or the SkyCaddie.

That is a fair price for the Sg2. I have the five and the two and there really isn't 350.00 difference except in the screen.
