This was a common theme when Meyer was at UF....the mysterious, "He's suspended for the opener..." or "....he has an injury. He won't be playing this week..."
Come to find out, failed drug tests galore (Aaron Hernandez, the Pouncey twins, and several other starters)....but that was made public long after Meyer had split town because he couldn't ever coach football again due to his "health"....and he told the new coach, "The program is broken."
You left our assaults and gang violence. Guarantee you if it was Bama or Mich St in game 1, these guys would be suspended for game 2. I guess come NFL Draft time we'll find out just how many failed drug tests, or how bad the grades really were. This was a common theme when Meyer was at UF....the mysterious, "He's suspended for the opener..." or "....he has an injury. Coach, sad thing is Urban doesn't have to. As well as he recruits, he's got guys lined up waiting to play for him. I can't complain because my SunDevils under previous regimes have been just as bad. For all the glitz and glamour, I seem to recall Pete Carroll at USC running a pretty clean program. I discount the Bush thing because I really think those were trumped up charges based on the finding from the recent court decision in the Todd McNair case. But that seemed to be the only issue they had. You're right...sadly. He let the inmates run the asylum, that's for sure.
Aaron Hernandez should have been a 1st or 2nd round draft pick....fell to the 4th round due to his "character".
Carlos Dunlap fell to the 2nd round because he was a bonehead.
I don't know how it's been in recent years, but teams used to not do very good the next week after playing the academies, especially Navy. Like I said, I don't know how it's been in recent years. It's probably time to start keeping tabs again. Although I always kind of keep it in the back of my mind. I would think it would be especially tough for young defenses and DC's to adjust back to spread/pro style offenses the next week..been listening to the big 10 coaches today on sirius
urban was asked about the negative news on cfb in offseason plus having coaching comments taken out of context and blown way out of proportion. he gave a great answer. said that in this day and age "journalists" look to make a name for themselves and actually can get promotions and raise increases based on shit like # of followers or retweet on twitter. he said you can get a lot more retweets and interest writing about a 4th string dback caught with weed than talking about ohio state having a dozen academic all big-10 players
also talked about the va tech loss. he said a major issue is when you have a team like navy (triple option) to start the season because you think about them and prepare for them for 9 months. after that game you probably aren't well prepared for "normal" team and when it's a well coached group like VT you can get beat unexpectedly. with that news i am going to run some queries on how teams that open with navy/army/gt/newmex/gaso do in 2nd week of the year after preparing for triple option for entire offseason.
really liked Darrell Hazell of Purdue. great interview...definitely a guy that is ez to root for

Looks like All American DE Bosa is one of those players. 5D took the game down, but I see some 10s being dealt out there now as well. I have a hard time believing this game will go down below double digits as we get closer to kick, what do you guys think?
I think Navy is the best example because they were the best independent with an option offense, although they will be in the first year of a conference now. GT and AF are both in a conference, and I would think their opponents have somewhat adjusted to playing them. But like I said, I haven't really kept tabs recently.i'll run a query with army, navy, gt, air force and gaso. not sure to add new mex since they have been all over the board in offensive style and now going to no-huddle spread/option for 2015. will run all these teams separate as well. will post findings....
That's because the academies are almost always underdogs or very short favorites. Big advantage there, especially when they are catching a team between conference games. GT is a more respectable program, so they aren't going to get as many favorable lines. I've always loved these option offenses as big dogs with their ability to shorten games...Navy used to be especially tough on the road.since 2000 teams in week 2 after starting season vs AF/NAVY/ARMY/GT are 13-20 ATS, 7-28 SU including 0-7 ATS (1-6 SU) vs Air Force

if you drop GT from that list and only use academies the #'s are even better.... 9-15 ATS and 3-22(!) straight up
