Think you guys are way off here and it's not the homer talking. No way is USC going to go to Columbus with a true freshman QB in a night game and wipe the field with OSU. Despite their BCS woes (people forget they came within a play of beating Texas last year), this team has tons of talent at every position and is a legit top 10 team. USC has more talent but the QB situation and the homefield are huge factors. Game looks about like a toss up to me.
Jim,
I don't think anyone in the past 4 years has questioned Ohio State's talent. It is strictly coach/schemes. USC & LSU both said they knew everything Ohio State was going to run.
Ohio State has had 15% more players drafted than any other school since 2000 in the NFL draft, 77 players, USC next at 66. The bottom line is there is talent, but Jim Tressel has no understanding of how to maximize it.
Even the argument that Boxslayer makes about the DL in the SEC is correct, but I don't think it applies to OSU. The problem is under Tressel OSU is soft and doesn't have the killer instinct. When teams used to come to OSU under Cooper, we would win by 30/40/50/60 points. Now, we need a 2 pt stop and punt return (Vs OHIO U) last year to pull out these games. Also, yesterday JT showed how bad of an in game manager he is. Why would you not kick it to go up by 18? Why bring in Bauserman, when TP was really rollling. Its not like he bringing in JB this week.
At this point, I may not wager on the game, holding out hope that OSU can win, but I will remove my emotions near game time and roll with USC.
