Here is another angle to look at in tonight's Fiesta Bowl...
Ohio St was in a similar position back in September (who can forget that beating) when they went to USC as approximately a 9 or 10pt dog...
After watching USC smash Penn St on NYD....here is an observation:
USC is better man for man at basically EVERY position then Texas....think about it.
I am willing to give you McCoy and Sanchez cancel each other out. But USC has a better offensive line, much better RB's and much better WR's then Texas.
On defense, with the exception of Orakpo, USC is better man for man at EVRY position on defense then Texas...the difference is not even close at LB and DB.
Now, consider the line again (Texas -8). Ohio St did run into a USC buzzsaw who had been preparing for that game since they beat down Illinois in last years Rose Bowl. The game was in SoCal where USC virtually never loses....it was a night game (which is an advantage) and Ohio St played with their now 2nd string QB and w/o arguably the best RB in the nation in Beanie Wells....Texas on the other hand still thinks they are playing Thursday night against Florida. Motivation has got to be a factor.
No doubt Texas should be favored. However, they shouldn't be an 8pt favorite. Maybe a 3 1/2 or 4pt fave at best.
Don't be suprised if this game is closer then people think.
Last note:
No one in the Big Ten plays offense like Texas does. But on the flip side, no one even comes close in the Big 12 to playing defense like Ohio St does....
BOL to those on Texas tonight. You might need it.
