I read here last week or sometime where the doctors say Compulsive gambing is an impulsive disorder? I don't suffer with that, but do have uncontrolable urges for sweets (cakes, ice cream, etc)? Would this also be considered an impulsive disorder?

I'm sure your doctor will be happy to prescribe something for ANYTHING they make up as a "disease".

Evaluate your diet and exercise. There lies the answer.

Therein lies the problem...."eating just one". I simply can NOT do it. I'm a recovering alcoholic (9 years); but the eating disorder has gotten worse and worse. For instance...yesterday bough half-gallon Frence Vanilla ice cream...This morning it was gone. I asked doctor about a pill to control eating..he gave me a diet...which I could NOT stand.......... PITA BREAD, etc...Man....how does ANYBODY EAT that stuff.

I just figured if this was an IMPULSE DISORDER.....I'd look up an appropiate medicine on the net for it. Apparently I'm wrong. :sad3:

Eat to live, do not live to eat.

Now, if I could just follow these words myself. :sad3:

I have a similar disorder,

am not fat, but am 25-30 overweight & I want to lose it badly....

like you say though, if my fiancee brings a tub of ice cream into the house, forget about it, lasts 2 days max, probably only 1 day.

its about discilpline buddy....

dont look for excuses (disorder etc etc).....

Just like in POKER, those are the cards you were dealt with in life (YOU LOVE SWEETS). NOW, you have to play those cards with DISCIPLINE & control your disorder.

Try sucking on a HARD SWEET CANDY instead of eating a TUB of Ice cream.

I know, I know, it is very hard to do. Personally I have not found the discipline myself either.

If you do find something that works let me know, but trust me, the answer is not in a PILL, it is in your MIND.

there are alot of ppl that are "sugar sensitive" I am one of them, a recovering alcoholic.

check this out who

http://www.radiantrecovery.com/

also ppl who have had alot of antibiotics over the years kill good as well as bad bacteria. an overgrowth of candida yeast grows in intestines.

what do these yeast crave? sugar.

this occurs in men as well as women.

check out this stuff too who. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/t...f=sr_1_1/103-1669451-6945432?v=glance&s=books

that is a book written by a medical doctor, it is very enlightening.

take this quiz and see what you think

sugar gives the brain a euphoric feeling

the brain likes this feeling and asks for more and more.

it has alot to do with serotonin and endorphins

if you are low on those chemicals you try to feel better with sugar and the crash of sugar burnout requires more and more sugar

Thanks HolySmoke...Good links..I'll study them later. I feel for you and missing alcohol. After my 3rd DUI...(which I thanfully beat in court)..I stopped drinking entirely...went the AA route, etc....But to be totally honest...it was fear that keeps me away from booze...pure unashamed FEAR....I don't want to go back to that time in my lfe ever again. It's a train wreck in just about any form...don't let the cute beer ads...tease you..I see the one from Budweiser and how the guy is talking about how his grandfather would be so proud they are carring on the brewing tradition....and I get a laugh now.....Michelob...wasn't that a bud product.......my undoing.......
Sweets....are indeed..VER MUCH....related...but it's tougher than alcohol...because there is no limit for ice cream and driving. LOL!

Best of Luck to you in your battle....Maybe soon it will be just a distant memory.

IMO sweets, like gambling and alcohol, are an escape. Life is way too easy, boring and humdrum. There is no challenge, no reason to hone and use our potential skills. Can't make money? No problem...social safety net. Can't walk a mile? No problem, there are cars. Can't play sports? No problem, there are pro teams which you can bet on and it's almost like you're playing, etc. etc. etc.

In fact, society WANTS you to overeat because it boosts the economy. It also wants you to feel guilty about it so you will buy all sorts of BS products to help lose weight. But whatever you do, DON'T succeed because then there'll be two economic sectors you'll no longer be contributing to....no worries, though, because the manufacturers of both sweets and diet products know that the system has been carefully designed with huge marketing budgets and managers and staff who shit on their own kids (by being workaholics and too stressed to care about them) to make sure you'll always come back for more....

You may just have to give in to the urges because the enemy is just WAAAYYYY too powerful.

my father has been a friend of bill w's for over 7 yrs, and I can't say that I don't intend to join in that friendship very soon as the bottle is startin to wear on me both physically and mentally. The other alternative is not see my kids grow up and continue to be drunk. Drinking will blind me to the facts that my kids will grow up and not know what I could of given them. So in the near future I'll be a real man and give this up for good. But it'll have to be "one day at a time". apple :sad3:
