arlen's moronic statement of "we have to make judgements VERY FAST" really did the job. lol, at least it got a thousand people to yell out "WHY!?!" in unison

as normal for a PA politician he can't get his point across so throws us some sad-sack citizen to illustrate the horrors of US healthcare (my assumption of what that guy was doing up talking at the end of the clip). Rendell just got done doing a similar circus parading kids and old folks out on stage to scare the voting public into backing his state income tax increase.

Americans have lost confidence in them, and it's about time.

Obama better stop with this we need to rush shit bullshit, Americans are now thinking he's an out of touch fool when he says such.

He lost all momentum on this, and it's a tidal wave turning against him. The harder he pushes, the further it falls. Let's see if he can actually sniff a clue and adjust.

I think not.

Rep. Bishop (D-NY) overwhelmed and cancels townhall

This is the rawest form of democracy we have seen since the Revolution. Damn, makes one proud. Topics go well beyond healthcare to include 2d Amendment, cap & trade, bailouts, and more. Just incredible.

Unreal

damn, I was spot on in my prediction posted in my own "people pissed at chief of staff" thread

===================================
of course, Nancy will say the Insurance industry is wicked

the idiots at MSNBC will call it a right wing conspiracy, and the 27 people watching will blame it on Fox & Rush & Rednecks

the other lying enablers will lie some more as they blame Republicans for lying

Harry Reid will say the war in Iraq is already lost

and the Huffington post will have a story about birthers

carry on

Americans spent more in June, despite income drop
By CHRISTOPHER S. RUGABER, AP Economics Writer Christopher S. Rugaber, Ap Economics Writer
37 mins ago

WASHINGTON – As gasoline prices rose, Americans spent more in June than the previous month — despite falling incomes. For the rest of the year, economists expect falling wages and rising unemployment to act as a drag on spending.

Consumer spending is closely watched because it accounts for about 70 percent of total economic activity and has helped lift the economy out of previous recessions. While analysts expect the economy to grow in the second half of this year, consumers aren't likely to lead the way.

Americans boosted their spending 0.4 percent in June, the Commerce Department said Tuesday, the second consecutive monthly increase. But adjusting for inflation, spending fell 0.1 percent, following a flat reading in May. Inflation-adjusted spending hasn't increased since February, the department said.

Personal income, meanwhile, dropped 1.3 percent in June, the eighth straight decline and steepest fall in four years. Incomes were inflated in May due to one-time payments from the Obama administration's stimulus program. But wages and salaries also fell 0.4 percent in June.

"The key message is that ... income remains weak" and consumers are likely to keep saving more, Paul Dales, U.S. economist at Capital Economics, wrote in a note to clients. "Under those circumstances, we expect spending to remain muted for some time."

Consumer spending may increase in July and August due to the government's "cash-for-clunkers" program, economists said, but will likely level off afterward. The program has spurred thousands of Americans to trade in old cars for newer vehicles.

"When given sufficient incentive, as in cash-for-clunkers, consumers will spend," said Nigel Gault, chief U.S. economist for consulting firm IHS Global Insight. "But reduced wealth, high debt, tight credit and a weakening labor market are all weighing on consumers."

Gas prices peaked June 22 after rising nearly every day for two months. A price index included in the income and spending report showed overall prices rose 0.5 percent in June, but were up only 0.2 percent when food and energy are excluded.

Still, the housing market continued to show signs of life as pending U.S. home sales rose in June for the fifth straight month, according to the National Association of Realtors. The group's pending home sales index rose more than expected to 94.6, from an upwardly revised reading of 91.3 in May. The last time there were five straight monthly gains was July 2003.

Americans are saving more as they seek to rebuild their nest eggs, which have been hammered by falling home values and stock portfolios amid the longest recession since World War II. While saving can be good in the long run, rapid increases can slow the economy.

A key question is how high the savings rate will climb. The department said Tuesday the personal savings rate fell to 4.6 percent in June, after jumping to 6.2 percent in May, which was the highest since February 1995. The rate dropped briefly below 1 percent last year and some economists say it could hit 8 or 9 percent by early 2010.

But the department also revised its spending and income data back to 1929, as it did last week when it reported second-quarter gross domestic product, the broadest measure of the economy's output. The changes show that Americans saved more that previously thought earlier this decade.

Bolstered by the consumer spending and housing reports, investors continued a rally that has sent stocks up 14 percent since July 10. The Dow Jones industrial average added nearly 34 points to 9,320.19, and broader indices also edged up.

The government reported last week that the overall economy, as measured by the GDP, shrank at an annual rate of 1 percent in the second quarter, far less severe than the 6.4 percent decline in the first quarter and a 5.4 percent decline in the fourth quarter of 2008.

But even as the recession bottoms out, economists expect unemployment to keep rising from its current rate of 9.5 percent to 10 percent or higher by the end of the year.

The Labor Department is scheduled to issue its July employment report Friday. Economists expect the report will show the jobless rate rose to 9.6 percent as employers cut 320,000 jobs last month, better than the 467,000 lost in June.

Sluggish consumer spending has held back the sales of food and beverage companies. Tyson Foods Inc., the world's largest meat producer, said Monday that sales fell 3 percent in its third quarter. The company posted a strong profit due to cost cuts.

And sales for MillerCoors, the U.S. joint venture owned by Molson Coors Brewing Co. and SABMiller, increased by only 1 percent in the most recent quarter, Molson Coors reported Monday.

DNC goes nuclear: Mobs of right-wing extremists are attacking our health-care town halls! Flashback: Obama tells cultists to "get in their faces"
posted at 7:25 pm on August 4, 2009 by Allahpundit

Fortuitously timed, coming as it does just one day after we revisited some of the left's greatest hits in demonizing Bush, McCain, Palin, etc. They're like the proverbial guy in spectacles who sucker-punches you and then shrieks when you move to retaliate about not hitting a man wearing glasses. Such delicate flowers they are:

>>> Statement from DNC Communications Director Brad Woodhouse on the Republican Party and Allied Groups' Mob Rule: The Republicans and their allied groups – desperate after losing two consecutive elections and every major policy fight on Capitol Hill – are inciting angry mobs of a small number of rabid right wing extremists funded by K Street Lobbyists to disrupt thoughtful discussions about the future of health care in America taking place in Congressional Districts across the country.

However, much like we saw at the McCain-Palin rallies last year where crowds were baited with cries of 'socialist,' 'communist,' and where the birthers movement was born – these mobs of extremists are not interested in having a thoughtful discussion about the issues – but like some Republican leaders have said – they are interested in 'breaking' the President and destroying his Presidency.

These mobs are bussed in by well funded, highly organized groups run by Republican operatives and funded by the special interests who are desperately trying to stop the agenda for change the President was elected to bring to Washington. Despite the headline grabbing nature of these angry mobs and their disruptions of events, they are not reflective of where the American people are on the issues – or the hundreds of thousands of thoughtful discussions taking place around kitchen tables, water coolers and in homes.

The right wing extremists' use of things like devil horns on pictures of our elected officials, hanging members of Congress in effigy, breathlessly questioning the President's citizenship and the use of Nazi SS symbols [Heaven forbid. -- ed.] and the like just shows how outside of the mainstream the Republican Party and their allies are. This type of anger and discord did not serve Republicans well in 2008 – and it is bound to backfire again.<<<

I added the boldface in case the media's unclear on which words the DNC wants them to emphasize when they're reading this release on air. Needless to say, this is the left's pitiful — and ironic, given the lip service paid above to "thoughtful discussion" — strategy to win the ObamaCare debate by framing the GOP as stone-cold nuts before its own message machine gets rolling during the recess this month. Already today, we've had Axelrod whining on MSNBC about "fearmongering" (more irony!), Boxer fretting about people in suits "storming" the town halls, and smilin' Dick Durbin lamenting that "tea baggers" are trying to turn the meetings into "free for alls." Isn't that what the left did for years in public meetings about the war, asked Jake Tapper of Gibbs earlier today. You'll find the answer below. But before you watch, courtesy of Greenroom all-star Karl, a few talking points for the left to use as their "thoughtful discussion" goes forward:

* People who want Congress to take more time debating healthcare are shutting down debate.
* Pres. Obama says the time for talk on healthcare is over, but his critics are trying to shut down debate.
* Harassing and threatening the families of AIG employees is awesome; razzing Representatives and Senators is totally bogus!
* Asking Representatives and Senators to read bills before voting on them is killing democracy.
* Sen. Specter saying "we have to make judgments very fast" is awesome. Booing him for saying so is shutting off debate.
* Healthcare protesters are thugs shutting off debate; antiwar protesters are "rowdy."

Not "thugs," Karl. "Mobs" and "extremists."

Update: I can't believe I forgot this golden oldie from the campaign trail last September. Thanks to Omri Ceren for reminding me.

The feistier, more sarcastic tone came as worried Democrats urged Obama to get tougher and show more passion. Obama has tried to assure donors and voters that he's been schooled by Chicago politics…

In Elko, Obama tried to anticipate his critics and called on the crowd of about 1,500 to sharpen their elbows, too.

"I need you to go out and talk to your friends and talk to your neighbors. I want you to talk to them whether they are independent or whether they are Republican. I want you to argue with them and get in their face," he said.

"And if they tell you that, 'Well, we're not sure where he stands on guns.' I want you to say, 'He believes in the Second Amendment.' If they tell you, 'Well, he's going to raise your taxes,' you say, 'No, he's not, he's going lower them.' You are my ambassadors. You guys are the ones who can make the case."

Look at the polls you fucking morons. I suppose the retard will argue only right wing extremists are being polled.

LOL

you don't even realize that the only real debate on this issue is between the Democrats.

If you can't see that, how can one possibly reach you?

It's not rocket science, it's third grade math.

Lotta noise, lotta noise.

But, programs working. International respect returning. Starting to feel good to be an American again instead of a resident of a rouge country.

I'm always proud to be an American, I guess that's one of the big differences between us.

Can't comprehend (read respect) anything else.

Forty-eight percent (48%) of U.S. voters now rate the U.S. health care system as good or excellent. The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey shows that just 19% rate it as poor.

---------------------------------------------------------------

48-19

what doesn't Obama understand?

Americans are happy with their own health care, they're concerned about exploding deficits and they think Obamacare will diminish health care quality.

It's all about a national consensus, and nothing about right wing extremists.

He understands that 48% of the people taking that particular Rasmussen poll are wrong.

I have to keep going back to this because you keep ignoring it. We are #37 in the world in healthcare but we are virtually tied with the Marshall Islands for 1st in cost and the Mashalls have a logistics problem.
