Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) is shifting to the center after months of battling Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) for the hearts of the Democratic Party’s liberal base. His recent strategy of political triangulation has already sparked a fight with MoveOn.org, a powerful liberal advocacy group.

MoveOn.org has challenged Obama for supporting a compromise on intelligence surveillance legislation that many Democrats oppose.
MoveOn.org officials have come close to accusing Obama of breaking a promise he made last year to fight a bill that would grant legal immunity to telecommunications firms that shared customer information.

More evidence of Obama’s ideological trajectory is a television advertisement emphasizing patriotism, personal accountability and tax cuts in Republican strongholds such as Alaska and Montana.

For more votes? Why is that so hard to understand.

Back in the day you would say GWB is a conservative right? Would you call him that now?! He turned out to be more liberal than Gore.

That's why is popularity is so low. He didn't run like a spendoholic, or he would never have been elected.

The war fucked W's agenda up, just like the war fucked LBJ. It became the focus of their presidency, and all other issues were off the table. W did try to discuss social security reform, but he lacked the political capital necessary to fight that fight.

But if the country is trending towards the left, why can't he just be himself?

I know it's to get more votes Rob, everyone should just stop pretending America wants liberalism, that's all.

McCain:

I am for Public Financing

No ... wait .... I am against Public Financing

Shit ... I think I will be for Public Financing

McCain missed his calling as he should be a stack of flap jacks at IHOP as
much as he flip/flops

doc, you're incapable of grasping one simple issue, any simple issue, everything is way over your head.

I'm not talking about a policy position, I'm talking about one's soul, one's core beliefs. The positions that define a man. If you can't come out of the closet, you're a weak person.

I agree. As a matter of fact the qaulity I find most redeeming about liberalism is the push for education and job training.

Actually I dont think either party represents a majority of americas believes thus the divide down the middle

McCains "core belief"

Make me laugh .... he has none Personally or Professionally

I must give the guy credit ... Bush trashed his family and McCain buckled
like a little girl and has spent 7 yrs licking Bush's anus on a regular basis

Dont yap to me about Core Beliefs as McCain can pace Bush when it
comes to jumping from side to side to get votes

Yeah, we are much too polarized. We do need major changes in leadership on both sides of the aisle.

We need more respectful and honest politicians. Term limits would help that cause, we need to purge the career politicians.

Willie, just put that goof Mercer on ignore, like many others do.

Rob, isn't college job training? That's not enough? And regarding education, the liberal "push" for job training you espouse is just to throw more money at education. Most of you liberals oppose mandatory testing of students, making schools accountable. So maybe you should rethink your position of that liberal "push".

any politician who stays the same cannot succeed. you have to be willing to adjust and change with the times. there's no left and right imo. what's right today could be left 5 years from now.

Unfortunately, the opposite seems to be the case, gtc. What was left 10-15 years ago is moderate today, and what was right is now moderate.

OK gtc08, I concur to some degree. JFK would be a tax cutting war mongering right wing extremest today. But to evolve form a liberal's lib to a pro-business / individual responsibility type guy in two weeks time?

That's one quick overhaul.

They won't admit it but true radical looney left wing Obama supporters have to realize they've been thrown under the bus by this excuse for a candidate as he tries desparately move to the middle. I hear he's even taken the Hammer & Sickle off his new bus to the dismay of all his Marxist allies!

He knows he isn't gonna win. He has to come to the center. He knows it. Everyone knows it. He will never win. Simple as that.
